When I was thirteen years old I was struck with a very rare Neurological Disease. Over the course of 6 months I went from being a healthy normal kid to loosing almost all control over my hands. I was unable to open doors, hold a fork and attend school. After about 1 year it balanced out and did not get any worse. However I lost my ability to write and other fine motor skills. On top of that I was very depressed and got very fat. Fast forward...due to continues muscle pain in my forearms I decided I would limit any and all physical activity. Bad Idea. When I was 17 my muscles had atrophied so much in my arms that I could not extend them fully or curl more than a soup can. So i started going twice a week to physical therapy. Within one year I was able to do most normal things and was able to attend college where I met my freshmen year roommate who turned me on to weight training. I took to it very quickly and really loved it. To not use your body for so long and then start to use it was amazing. I have had ups and downs but I am excited about the future and would like to see how far I can push myself so that I may inspire others with similar handicaps.
