Not really a bodybuilder more of a strength athlete but that's by the by. Grandad had me working out in all weather; he worked as a tracklayer for BR so always had access to heavy equipment: sandbags, girders and old oil-drums which he'd part-filled with concrete and welded handles to. Every Saturday morning he'd wake me up at 6am when I was about 10 and we threw those around before breakfast. I stopped training after his death in 1992 and didn't resurrect it until Dad bought me some old dumbbells home from the local recycling centre. As soon as my hands gripped the cold steel those memories of standing out in the pouring rain & knee-deep in mud came flooding back and I loaded a dumbbell with all the plates it held, carried it out to Dad and performed rep after rep. Since then I lift anything I can get my hands on and see each day to prove others wrong with feats of strength.
