For many fitness models, personal trainers and other fitness enthusiasts, it is a dream to make it on a cover of a a well known fitness magazine. For many, it remains just a dream. Not so for the Swiss Personal Trainer Marco Laterza. For more than ten years, he has been training at the famous David Gym in Zürich in order to fulfil his dream. But before this dream could be realized, he had to overcome many obstacles to pave the way for success.
The road was long
At the age of 16, Marco badly hurt his meniscus during gymnastics. His physician predicted he may never properly bend his knee or put weight on it again. âI was devastatedâ, he remembers. After being out for almost a year and despite all warnings, Marco didnât give up and got himself a physical therapist that started him on free weights training. His knee improved, and his overall body responded so well that a new fire was lit. âAt time I already knew that if I could do it, I wanted to inspire others to become fit as wellâ, Marco adds.
Still, Marco pursued a career in banking and worked out hard during all his free time. He became a licensed personal trainer, nutritionist and strength coach. âI realized that the skills Iâd developed in banking â listening to my customerâs needs, trying to put myself in their shoes and finding tailor-made solutions for them are absolutely key when working as a Personal Trainerâ, Marco says. The fact that he is fluent in three languages (English, German and Italian) is another welcoming plus to stimulate his new profession.
Dedication, determination and passion
These attributes best describe Marcoâs will and persistence in pursuing his fitness journey. âSport is my life. I want my clients to live a healthier life. Everyone is extremely busy today, but if youâre willing to invest the right amount of time, you can be fit no matter whatâ, he says. Marco knows what heâs talking about â heâs managed to train and look like a top athlete in addition to working full time, after a defeat that nearly ended his fitness journey before it had truly taken off.
