I have always been active and courious for more knowledge for fitness as long as I can remember. In 1997 I was shot in the leg during a home invasion. Some guys came in the house and I woke up running to see what was going on. I surprised them and one of them just turned and shot. The bullet struck me in the upper left leg. It took my leg out from under me and I rolled forward stopping in front of him with his gun against my head. At this point I said my final prayers to God aloud. I ended my prayer with if it's time for me to come to you I will open my eyes and be with you, if it's not my time then when I open my eyes these guys will be gone. Things got quite and I opened my eyes not sure if I was going to see God or still be here on Earth. Well I'm still here so it wasn't my time!! The bullet shattered my femur almost the length of the bone and stopped an eighth of an inch from puncturing my femoral artery. The doctor said that distance was the difference in me being alive or dead. The docs put a titanium rod through my femur. After all the physical therapy they inform me I wouldn't be able to lift weights as I had in the past or play sports anymore. Quote "You should really just be happy you can walk." After I left his office that day I said I was gonna prove him wrong. I have gotten in good shape but thanks to one of my brothers in muscles (Alberto Barrios / Barrios Fitness) I'm going to push for the best shape of my life.
My love comes from doing things we are told are impossible. God taught me through this experience that our bodies can adapt to anything and there is no power on this Earth as strong as our determination and will. No one can stand in the way of your goal except you. Believe in yourself, stay focused, stay prepared, and there is nothing that can stand in your way!!!! That goes for anything not just fitness. If we apply our successful strategies in fitness to all aspects of our lives we are all unstoppable!! Never let anyone stop you from your goals in life. They will try to discourage you but let it fall on deaf ears and stay on course. It's your life so live it and if you're not seeing the results you want change things up until you find what works for you. Never let FEAR control your decisions to make positive changes in your life.
