Background
I've been working out since I was a freshman in high school. I got into it to get strong for football. I started with a rinky-dink little barbell and dumbbell set in my house doing floor presses, overhead extensions and dumbbell curls. Eventually I graduated to bigger and better things and the rest is history. As an offensive lineman, I used to workout specifically for strength and size. Now that I'm not playing anymore, I'm trying to lose weight and get cut up while still building solid mass for the stage.
I don't think that there's anything that I don't like about working out (other than cardio). I love the challenge. I love the fact that no matter how hard I hit it, the weights will always be the same. 300 lbs will still be 300 lbs the next time I go workout and it's up to me to go in there and push it to the next level.

Growth
Posted in Training : Sep 12, 2011 8:25pmThere are all kinds of growth. We too often think of growth in the physical manner. We too often forget that there is growth in a psychological manner as well.
Today I was able to bear witness to physical growth but more inspiringly, psychological growth. I watched a man squat 405 for the first time in probably 5 years. This feat by itself can be either amazing or nothing spectacular at all depending on the viewpoint. To me it was amazing. Not merely the lifting of 405lbs, but the long-awaited development of confidence to do so. I saw a man do something physically that he had y

Posted in Training : Sep 01, 2011 7:38pmGeared up. My skin tingles from the beta alanine runnin through my veins. The music blares in my headphones. The sweet sounds of metal make my heart beat harder. This is the set. All or nothin right here, right now. The bar bends as I lift it off the rack. Steady. I breathe in deep. My ass drops to the floor. My eyes open wide as I explode out the hole. Rep after rep. 5, 6, 7, 8. My screams bellow louder with each and every rep. There is nothing else happening in the world except for this set. 12 reps. I've spent it all and rack the weight. I unbuckle my belt and breathe deep trying no

Posted in Training : Sep 01, 2011 12:48pmPeople pretend to not "know" proper gym etiquette. Now, every gym may have their own special set of rules based on where they are, what kind of gym they are and what the owner's attitude towards things are. That having been said, gym etiquette is alot like the rules that we learn as little kids: put your toys away when you're done playing with them (rack your weights!), sharing is caring (allow people to work in with you) and play nice (be courteous to those around you and apologize when neccessary).
These are rules that most people have been taught an
