When I Started:
1996
How I Started:
I was going through a very difficult time in my then-relationship and one of my best friends dragged me to the gym. I had never gone to a gym before to work out and never had planned to! However, once I was there I found peace of mind and I was hooked! I am very competitive by nature and I loved challenging myself and my body to lift more and grow stronger. I fell in love with weight lifting! Once I could press all of the weight in the stack of the leg press machine, another friend suggested I start to lift free weights. I got the help of a fantastic personal trainer at the YMCA where I was going at the time, and he showed me the fundamentals and got me going! I have been lifting ever since!
Why I Love It:
I love challenging myself to see how strong I can become. I love how it makes me feel and how it makes my body feel toned and strong. I have energy now, and a fantastic zest for life!
How I Stay Motivated:
Websites like Bodybuilding.com and Figureathlete.com, weight lifting magazines, pictures of figure athletes whose bodies I admire on my refrigerator, how I feel after working out, watching my body change, getting stronger!
My goals are to develop a figure athlete's body, perhaps one day enter a figure competition, and to be a fitness model now that I am 45 years old!
BB Accomplishments:
I used to squat 300 lbs until after 11 years of squatting, my back started to hurt. But I was so proud of that! Also leg extensions of 110 lbs on the Nautilus machine. Finding out I can actually do cardio for an hour at a time! Sticking with it for all of these years!!!!

This wasn't even my top weight! I weighed 161 at this time, when my family and I went on a trip to Maui. After that, I gained 10 more lbs in 2 months. That was when I hit my bottom.
I did it!!! Finally achieved my dream and goal! Competed in my first ever Figure Competition! 2009 NPC, Vancouver, WA

your first competition... thats great! I am happy to see you are still dedicated. I hadn't seen much on your profile for updates so I kinda wondered. As for me, I am doing great. Have been trying to add some lean mass without the fat. Getting mixed results, but I haven't given up.
I didn't know you were getting ready to compt, how exciting!!! get it done, I've never done one but I'm sure you are going to get hooked on it and then want to do more...I'm hardgaining for 2 mos, then cut, cut, cut or should I say cardio, cardio, burbee's!!! lol. clc.
K - I haven't spoken to you in awhile, you are getting some nice, cute cuts going on all over the place!!!! Just keep your head-down and get your sets in plus cardio and diet and you will def hit your goals, congrats, I'm really excited for you, you look awesome. clc.
The workouts shouldn't be that different from your offseason training, and 2 a days shouldn't need to start this far out from a March show. You are psyching yourself out! Don't worry, you will be fine.
