When I Started:
Jan, 2009
How I Started:
I was always "in and out" of the gym. Used to do martial arts and played D1 tennis. Around 2002 I really got into strength training. Then I contracted 2 injuries that set me back for about 4 years, one to my left hip, then my right shoulder. I just recently started doing push ups and serious training.
Why I Love It:
I like to have goals, the more the better
How I Stay Motivated:
I love what I do, love the progress, and sadly, the pain is kinda nice too, makes me feel "useful"
But other than that, my goals, for those who care, they are:
1) The Planche (the ultimate)
2) Front lever
3) Back lever
4) Iron cross (used to do this)
5) Maltese Cross
6)1 hand pull up (already have this, want more)
7) Flag (not far from this either)
8) 75 pull ups straight (good for about 50 now)
and surely more will come as I advance towards my current objectives
BB Accomplishments:
errr, not sure, did 1016 pull-ups in 84 min, but after having checked "world record requirements" I am pretty sure that the number accepted would have been considerably lower...

Pretty basic stuff, this will eventually be a proper front lever where both feet extend straight, back straight, hips, shoulder and ankles in a horizontal line.
Regular back lever, some tension retained in arms, considerably more challenging than if shoulder is allowed to carry the load. One step up from the straddle, next step is to close distance between hips and wrists.
I have a few weak areas which I def need to strengthen.
First I need to develop proper shoulder strength, this will prob be the biggest challenge due to my shoulder injury.
What I am looking to do requires that I can lift my own weight on two shoulders, arms out-stretched (for the planche and maltese cross). Primarily, this will be accomplished through isometric progressions and hand stand push ups with various grips and angles.
Further, my wrists need to get stronger as the forces exerted on them are considerable in certain odd angles, don't want any stress fractures.
Also, the biceps and lats need to strengthen, as they are key to OAPU, levers and iron cross, this is accomplished by practicing lever progressions and doing tonns of pull ups.
Lastly, every pound of muscle I gain is another pound that must be moved, perhaps on some lever (ie consider the planche, pounds on my legs must be multiplied by the length betw shoulder joint and the muscle location, in order to see how much extra force my shoulder has to generate to lift the extra pound of muscle).
In short, my muscle gains must be seriously balanced/limited, there is a definite trade off.
This lady has totally epic pull-up skills, never knew anyone who could do 1200+ in 80 min, she totally motivates me to get off my lazy rear and go work some.
I sometimes wonder if 27 is over the hill, esp for the stuff I am trying to do. Well, seeing people like oldsuperman motivates me to at least try, that is, if he can do it at 55+ then maybe I have a shot too.
Pull:
Day 1
-Warm up: 20 pull-ups
-4x10-14 AC-pull or typewriter
alternate with
Tucked back-lever hold for about 15sec, hips locked to wrists.
-4x15 sec front lever progression
alternate with iron cross progression
-2-4 sets of muscle ups.
Awesome moves, man! I'm glad to see people using the REAL "old school" strength training method. You look amazingly fit and undoubtedly your strength, agility, and flexibility is top notch. Way to go!
I used to be able to do an unassisted hand stand for quite awhile, like 30+ seconds, as a kid. I haven't tried one in A LONG time though. I'll have to try it again in some grass lol.
well are you talking about that one arm handstand? I can't do that, wouldn't even try it lol. I'm talking about the head stand pics of mine... I'm getting confused lol
Thanks for your message. All is going well. I've needed more rest this week than usual. Feel good today though so I will probably hit it pretty hard today :) Hey....that's an impressive balancing move!
I can't remember the last time I've done dips ... shoulders won't let me though I can't say it's an impossibility .. maybe just takes a lot of slow, methodical building up of the muscles there before I can do it. Missed the gym yesterday, will need to make up for that today :)
