Most of my life I have had chronic back pain and lots of headaches. Sometimes I took at least 6 asprin a day for several days to get rid of a headache. In 2003 I got a hernia (at a health club) and promptly had surgery to repair it. With chronic aches and pains, my quality of life was lousy. I was very underweight, stoop shouldered and my hair, what's left of it, is quite gray. It depressed me to go a restaurant and sometimes get asked if I wanted the senior citizens discount.
In the spring of 2007 I began a several month long chiropractic "reconstructive" program after being diagnosed with disk degeneration in my neck, which is at the onset of developing bone spurs and arthritis.
I use a door hanging neck traction unit at least twice a day. My posture is now the best it has been in my adult life and back pains have diminished. I considered the possibility that I might regress from improved posture and pain relief after my reconstructive chiropractic program was reduced to a maintenance program. So I started bodybuilding at home in June of 2007 to see if it helps in maintaining the improvements in my back and neck.
I bought some 52 pound Nautilus adjustable dumbbells, a compact Hoist dumbbell bench, and a set of Bodylastics.com resistance bands. I also began heavy consumption of weight gain powders and other bodybuilding supplements. In December 2007 I joined Planet Fitness.
Why I Love It:
How I Stay Motivated:
1. Eating lots of aminos, protein, carbs and other bodybuilding supplements to stay pumped and speed recovery.
2. Trying different training methods learned about in articles on the web or in magazines.
3. Listening to inspiring music, especially during a work out.
4. Watching bodybuilding videos from the internet.
5. Last, but not least, cultivating inner peace by seeking the Lord, which is necessary for me to get adequate rest and recovery sleep.
BB Accomplishments:
From mid June 2007 to the present my weight has increased from from a very underweight 142 to a closer to normal 159. My current target is 170. Also, a number of people have noticed a change and offered compliments.
