When I Started:
2001
How I Started:
I've played a variety of sports, including intramurals in college. As an adult I continue to play basketball. About 7 years ago I trained for my first marathon, but an ankle sprain kept me off track. I have completed 2 marathons, and am preparing for my third May of 2009. Unfortunately, I'd rather play basketball than run, and it can be difficult to be motivated for early A.M. runs in VT.
Why I Love It:
It's a struggle against inertia. When I get in a groove, I enjoy the challenge and my mind travels amazing journeys.
How I Stay Motivated:
Progress is made one step at a time

I will be using the training plan for the marathon from "Brain Train for Runners" by Matt Fitzgerald. During the fall I will be playing lots of basketball and ultimate frisbee. I will focus on 3 key runs a week, and listening to my body. The book uses a different focus each week to improve ones running form. It subscribes that the brain and a positive attitude are critical for success. In addition I hope enew my dedication to training my core.
We visited our eldest at Princeton last night. For her so far college has churned a jumble of emotions: excitement, anxiety, joy, determination. Have the feeling she is still searching, still trying to fit in and make it her home. She misses us, but really misses her core of...
Thanks for the comment on my blog.
I read "The Princeton Run". You can't ask for a better morning than that.
I wish you and your family a great weekend!
I don't do the Crossfit (CF) workouts, but my husband does. I do incorporate a lot of their principles into my workouts, but I'm more of the "recreational" bodybuilder type!! If you are interested in the CF workouts ask my husband. How's the running going?
LOL, I like your logic! I am trying to convince myself to get up for a couple of 530 am classes this week! Tomorrow and Friday! Wish me luck with that!!
Ummm--cross country skiing experience. Haha!!! I don't really have that much, to be honest. I did a bunch of downhill skiing last winter, and then decided to do that race with my bf. I haven't really ever done X-country skiing before that. I fell quite a bit, but could really plug away at the hills. I do think staying in shape year round and being a runner helped get me through. More than anything, it was just a good time to get out there and try something new.
All is well in IA!! I had a run of 4-14hr days and I am wiped out and looking forward to a couple 8 hrs to regroup and get some exercise!!
How goes it in VT?? Are the fall colors peaking yet??
Hey, Michael! It's been a while! I'm not on bb.com much anymore; I'm trying to get back here and reconnect with all the amazing folks on here. Hey, you'll dig this: I've been asked to speak at to a group of Triathletes about Off-season strength training. Maybe I can convince them that strength training is crucial during their off-season to prepare for those intense IronMan comps. Should be interesting! Hope you are taking care of yourself...keep me posted! --Kim
Thank you so much for the positive comments on my blog!! You are always so thoughtful and i'm glad to have you in my corner (boxer talk...lmao) Hope your running and everything is going well!! ~Storm (p.s. has anyone heard from Pix lately??)
