I've played a variety of sports, including intramurals in college. As an adult I continue to play basketball. About 7 years ago I trained for my first marathon, but an ankle sprain kept me off track. I have completed 2 marathons, and am preparing for my third May of 2009. Unfortunately, I'd rather play basketball than run, and it can be difficult to be motivated for early A.M. runs in VT.
Why I Love It:
It's a struggle against inertia. When I get in a groove, I enjoy the challenge and my mind travels amazing journeys.
Keep my attitude positive, enjoy my journey, build successful habits for the rest of my life.
Goal (Long):
Will be racing at least 2 marathons in 2010, so it's time to get in shape.
Other Running Goals:
5K- 21:50
10K - 45:16
1/2 marathon sub 1:40:20
I will be using the training plan for the marathon from "Brain Train for Runners" by Matt Fitzgerald. The book uses a different focus each week to improve ones running form. It subscribes that the brain and a positive attitude are critical for success. In addition I hope renew my dedication to training my core.
She has an amazing attitude, enjoys life, and competes hard. She's competed in triathlons, running races, and bicycle races, and always has a smile. She even works out with a college soccer team, as well as finding time to coach basketball, and work 12 hour shifts. She can do it all, that's why I find her inspirational.
I looked at my calendar, and saw that the Boston marathon was only 23 weeks away. I hope to score a slot through my running club, and be on the starting line as a 50 year old. Only 23 weeks, it was the inspiration I needed to get my fat ass off the couch. I checked my marathon guide book,...
My schedule for the coming week, 3/30-4/5
Proprioceptive Cue: Scooting

Congratulations! I signed up last Thursday night, less than 24 hours before registration closed. I knew the race was filling up much faster than last year but at the time didn't realize just how close I was to missing out. See you there!
Sorry to hear about the lack of direction. From experience I've come to think the key is to focus on what you like best and subordinate everything else to that. For me it's running, and I find I can keep up my diet -- a huge challenge because I like to eat-- more effectively when it's to make me a better runner rather than just to give me more visible abs, something I just don't care about enough. Good luck getting your mojo back!

Hi Michael - I'm not going to be participating in bodyspace.com anymore (as a matter of fact, I really haven't been around for quite a while). I actually just wanted to thankyou personally for being one fantastic support and friend during the time that I was an active member - especially when I was off sick. You were a constant support. Thankyou Michael and I wish you all the best with your own goals.

Oh I feel for ya on those hours. I used to open a retail store and had to work 3am til 1pm a few days a week. Not fun at all. My sleep patterns are permanantly messed up now.
so you're working night shift, huh? it definitely takes some getting used to. i've been doing it about a year now, but i'm cutting back my hours starting this month. i think you always have such varied races. i'd like to get into more trail runs again
Hi Michael! Oh those hill repeats I do a few times a week. I have been doing regular runs outside around my neighborhood for my moderate cardio days too. I am really feeling it! My body is not used to so much running. How are you?
