Overall Goal: Right now I want to put on a lot more muscle mass over winter without getting a belly, and see how good I look by Spring.

When I Started:
Apr, 2002
How I Started:
I was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, and was told I needed a heart transplant. After I had a pacemaker and defibrillator put in and my health stablized with various medications I began weight training. I started at 150 pounds that was 8 years ago and I am now at 185.
Why I Love It:
Bodybuilding has helped me to get over a lack of self confidence and overcome depression on account of my illness. I hope to serve as a role model to show others that building a better physique is possible regardless of your obstacles.
How I Stay Motivated:
I view each workout as a test. I try to better the weight or reps from the previous workout. I also stay focused and visualize in my mind how I want my body to look during my training, often times closing my eyes. I get added motivation from Ron Harris and his Daily Pump. I would not be so consistent for lifting if not for his e-mails. I'd also like to thank my training partner Laitham Haddad for his support, for believing in me and for pushing me to attain more.
BB Accomplishments:
None at the moment but who knows about the future.
This is my photos from before I ever started lifting weights and after my surgeries. You can see my sternal and pacemaker scar. This is when I started to workout.
Here is my photo taken at the end of August. Tried the Pro Tan this time around. Hope I'm improving.

I too have a pacemaker. Three days ago I had to have the lead replaced due to it being crushed by added muscle since the implant. Have you had or heard of this before? I want to continue training and still have to have my post op appointment, but the first comment from the surgeon to my wife was no more weights!
Hey Vito-Got any updated progress pisc's. Look good for 47/48. Too many guys our age looking like they are in their mid late 50's. Best of luck to you in your goals from St, Charles.
Hi! Some people on the forum are trying to get more Arnold Classic and Mr. Olympia coverage on TV in the future. Plz help out by going to the IFBB section of the forum and looking for the thread titled "IF YOU CARE ABOUT THE FUTURE OF BODYBUILDING, CLICK HERE" the first post has instructions. It only takes a few seconds so try to get as many others to do it as you can. Spread the word however possible, Bodyspace, Myspace or anything to help that little extra! =)
Thanks for the comment man... Props on being able to come around like that and use this as a means to overcome obstacles. Other people aren't so smart in their choices about how to overcome problems, but lifting and being in shape is a great way! Best of luck to you!
You have made some tremendous progress in the last few years. Your story truly is an inspiration to others out there just getting started. Keep up the hard work. -kenji
Hey thanks for the compliment, guy. In some ways age is an attitude, so in terms of attitude, I'm more like. . .27! I really like young people, so maybe I'm just showing my admiration for this young generation!
The neck seems to be doing well. The nerve damage that resulted from the herniated disc is going to be a slow process at returning to normal. The doc says it may take up to a year or more. Other than being restricted by that, I couldn't ask for things to be better. Looks like you have overcome some serious obstacles yourself. Way to go! Keep on keeping on my friend.
