How I Started:
I started lifting with a few other friends from the neighborhood when I was about 15. One of them had a bench and plastic weights and we maxed out pretty often and I went from an initial bench max of like 60 lbs to 100 in a very short time and I was hooked. I was an ectomorhp then and I grew out of that in my mid 20's, but I didn't stick with lifting. It was an off and on thing until a couple of years ago when I was bad out of shape and gaining a little more fat than I was comfortable with. I came back and have lifted regularly for the last 3 years except for a 9 month break I took leading up to about December of 2006.
Why I Love It:
I enjoy the results you get from your efforts both in and out of the Gym. And everyone likes a compliment. You just get so much out of it, you can't help but love something that gives you back so much in return for what you give to it.
How I Stay Motivated:
My girlfriend complimenting my progress helps a lot!!!!
Watching the changes that I have brought about from the work I do in the Gym and in the Kitchen is a great motivator.
Also, compliments pump me up and get me excited and make me want to do more, bigger, better, so I can get more compliments.
Short term achievable goals are also key to staying motivated.
Why I like this video: This guy is intense and doens't use "normal" gym equipment. I like to watch these videos before I go work out. It gets me motivated.
I started a new diet plan at the begining of March and so far it is going great! I learned about it from a member here (wave_length) when I was reading in his journal. He has 3 main rules for loosing fat - (1)Workout 3 times a week with weights., (2) Eat 1g protein / lb lean body mass. (3)...
At least you're still getting your w/o's in Todd, & seeing improvements. Congrats. My w/o's are going well. The diet hasn't been good the last few wks. Need to tighten up on eating.
Way to go Todd. Yep, getting to bed earlier....I myself am usually not worth much by 8:30-9pm, since I consistently get up at 4:25am M-F. I try to get to bed by 9:30-10pm, but happens maybe 1/2 the time. It feels great doesn't it? To have that w/o behind you as you take on the day....
I keep telling the younger soldiers in my unit...better get going or us "old" guys will pass you up! You are looking great, keep training and kicking ass! Wishing you nothing but the best in 2009!
