When I Started:
Aug, 2001
How I Started:
I grew up small and unpopular, but made the decision to stop accepting "what I am" and realized that it didn't have to be who I am.
So I started out as one of those wannabe gym-rats, who took every supplement on the market, came to the gym a few times a week, and went out drinking 3 to 4 nights a week. Basically, for 7 years I trained my ego and not my body.
Last November, I decided that decent was not good enough, and asked myself "why not be great at something for a change?". I always knew that it could be done, but finally accepted that the only thing stopping me was me.
I opened my mind, paid attention, and became a student. I began learning and doing different things, and it became a lifestyle.
Now, it goes with me wherever I go - at home, in my car, even on my desk at work. Everyone knows what I do and what I'm about. It's not just a hobby anymore.
Why I Love It:
You can't hide behind your image, status, class, or background. It's not about how cool or popular you are. Everything you get YOU earn. It's not just handed to you. It translates to every other facet in life. If you want something bad enough, nothing can stop you except you. It defines who I am - I work for everything I get.
You don't have to settle for being what society tells you you are. You're in total control. You can't beat that!
How I Stay Motivated:
Honestly, I get motivated when I see how we can waste time worshiping celebrities on TV, and not put that same time into ourselves - watching others live their dreams instead of pursuing our own. We'll spend hours in front of the TV just to find out what stupid thing some rapper, singer or athlete did like we don't have a life of our own. We put these people on a pedestal and sell ourselves short in the process. It's not like they're looking in through the other side of the TV worried about what we're doing. They're great at what they do because they are constantly working on themselves. So why not hold ourselves to the same standard?
...because we somehow convinced ourselves a long time ago that we're just average people, and it's okay to be mediocre...
I don't know about you, but I refuse to live that lie anymore. I refuse to be average!
BB Accomplishments:
November 16, 2008 (turning point): After an empty night of drinking at the bar. I made the decision to stop wasting my potential, and change my life...

168 Pounds
This was after my first couple of years of "working out". It's amazing, I was convinced back then that I was impressive - considering I started out at 146 pounds.
Workout routine: Bench press everyday...then may'be some other stuff lol
This is what I ultimately want to look like. You can tell that there were no shortcuts here. It took a lot of time, commitment and years for him to accomplish what he has...and I've only been consistent for less than a year.
What is the most common reason that somebody gets injured while lifting?
That answer is actually two-fold. First, they don't stretch, then they try to lift more than what they are capable of lifting. There's no reason to be maxing out every time you go to the gym. Form factors in as well. That answer is actually two-fold. First, they don't stretch, then they try to lift more than what they are capable of lifting. What is the one tip you would give somebody who is just getting started?
Leave the ego at home. It's great to lift a lot of weight but sometimes training with your ego can get you hurt. Not only that, but you miss out on all the other positives that come with it - health, nutrition, actual fitness, lifestyle.

What mistakes did you make when you first started working out?
Lack of variety. When I was in high school, the three pillars our training revolved around was bench press, power cleans, and squats. I went to college and basically all I did for the first couple of years was bench press - everyday.

Today is November 21, 2009. The importance of this date is simply this: It has been a year and 5 days since I made the committment to get serious and stop bullsh*ttin around with what I do in the gym.
I normally train in the morning and after breakfast. Before my weight training I start off every workout with 15 minutes of high or low intensity (in some cases both) to warm-up. Unless it's a large muscle group I like to switch up my exercises when the routine...

It's going great, thanks for asking. Just started a new Qigong system in my training that's slashing the bodyfat, building muscle, and decreasing my appetite and it's only been 2 weeks. Will have my polar wrap by end of week to start running. All the crosstraining should have me average 2lbs. weekly fat loss. 8% bodyfat here I come. Peace.
Thanks! :) Unless we pass TCU, though, it may be for nothing. The bowls better invite us both if things stay how they are now! .....and your body is looking as good as ever too! :)
