My Father was a bodybuilder when he was younger and it took a few years but eventually it caught on with me. I actually started lifting weights when i was probably about 13, back then my routine was 3 sets of seated dumbbell curls, hammer curls, and overhead tricep extensions. I use do these in this gray collapsible chair in front of the TV in the afternoons. I was only in 8th grade at the time but nobody else did this and i ended up with the biggest arms in eight grade (Which was probably something like 13inches lol) i didnt really start to seriously lift for gains until i was probably about 18, before that i would lift sporadically and even at that not very seriously.
Why I Love It:
Its all about the PUMP! Its cliche cause everyone says it but its true. When you feel big you walk big and that gives off a totally diffrent perception of you to other people. Its a confidence people really notice both inside and outside the gym. I would say it definetly takes a year or so of lifting to get this confidence but once you have it you really dont lose it.
How I Stay Motivated:
Everyone has slumps where they dont want to lift on certain days (usually leg days) or they have plateued and are getting frustrated. My personel trick is to keep fresh rotations and stacks of supplements at the ready in case i need a change in pace. Maybe NO-EXPLODE isnt cutting it today, no problem, i bust out the NO-Shotgun which i havent used in a while and suddenly im pumped again. Aside from the supplements i record eveything and make sure that the next session i do is at least 1 rep higher for one set of that excercise, i am ALWAYS going up and that makes it a challenge to push yourself harder and stronger! i also have varying routines every two weeks. It took me about six months to get the routine combinations right but now i consistently gained strength and size and had minimal plateaus.
In the gym i use the Arnold Visualization principle. I'm in the AROTC and ive graduated Northern Warfare School so i like to image myself as the cliche soldier. Shoving wreckage off of myself when im doing bench presses, hauling wounded soldiers to saftey when im squatin, or carrying heavy ammunitions when im shruggin. I dont really like to listen to music, it can be very distracting, instead i focus on the weights... ALWAYS be thinkin about the next set, not what ur doing that night or now some girls ass looks. Imagine how the weight will feel when you press it, anticipate the struggle in the final rep, and know how you will overcome it. NEVER NEVER SURRENDER!!!
BB Accomplishments:
Haha, i left high school at 160 lbs. i now weigh roughly 183 solid. My arms when from 15inches of my freshman year in college to just over 17 inches now midway of my junior year. In the end though there is no greater accomplishment than getting that position where people are asking for your advice and asking for your "secret." If you can have that happen and still not have an ego thats bigger than you are, than you have done something right!
