When I Started:
1993
How I Started:
Fifteen years ago I started working out at 115 lbs. I didn't feel good about how thin I was and simply decided to do something about it. I started with machines. But it wasn't until I started lifting free weights that I started gaining mass. Right now, I weigh between 170 - 175 and 7.5% body fat. My current goal is 185 with 6% body fat. I have a rather intense workout that includes resistance work/free weights (75%), cardio (15%) and swimming (10%).
A few words for you, be careful from whom you receive your workout advise. There are plenty of people in the gym doing plenty of things that will get them hurt. Do your homework and take your time. Rome wasn't built in a day. Take it from someone in the medical field... STAY OFF THE STEROIDS!! The short cuts will catch up to you and you will regret it!!
Thank you to everyone for all the compliments!! To answer a few questions-
(1) Yes, I swear I'm 35.
(2) Yes, working with ill children can be difficult, but I can't imagine doing anything else.
(3) I find that having a really good beat on my iPod keeps me moving.
(4) I need a nutritionist.
(5) I only take workout advise from people with the physic that I admire (or want for myself) and only if they are all natural. I can't keep up with the 'roid boys and I don't try.
(6) I have a gym journal and everything I do goes in it, including the routine order, exercises, reps, weight, and cardio length. Using that, I can tell if I'm progressing and when its time to shake up the workout routine. (Yes, it may seem ridiculous but it works for me.)
Why I Love It:
I love the fact that it is a great way to relieve stress, I stay in great shape and I enjoy focusing on self improvement. All of that helps give me a sense of self confidence.
How I Stay Motivated:
I simply make certain to plan fitness into my life. I work out 4-5 days per wk. The days I don't go to the gym, I spend some time biking, kayaking or playing some type of sport. Exercise is a great way to spend time with friends.
My biggest downfall is my diet! I have a light appetite so I eat small meals, but several of them. And I have a HUGE sweet tooth (especially for chocolate chip cookies, brownies and chocolate anything). So if I can hone in on that, I'm fairly sure I could make some drastic changes. Anyone have any good recipes for a fitness routine?
BB Accomplishments:
I think that just getting to where I'm at and continuing to improve is an accomplishment.

Started working on CrossFit exercises. It's a great change! Look into it, you might find it an interesting change.
Goal (Long):
I have always wanted to be on the cover of a fitness magazine. I'm getting older so that goals is fading, but its the journey that matters, not necessarily the destination. Wish me luck anyhow... Any suggestions?
man, you look more like an MMA fighter than an oncologist! damn impressive. your profile is a good read. I share your diet challenge--sweets are my achilles heel. how long you been doing CrossFit? great results brother
I'm glad to hear there is someone out there who keeps trakc of workouts. I do the same, writing down what I do in order with the reps and weight as soon as I'm done with that particular station. Some people look at me like I'm crazy, but it's the best way to see if you are making progress. Someone once told me you can't break a record if you don't write it down.
Ted, impressive physique and it is refreshing to see someone in health care that is actually healthy themselves! Too many in health care are very UNhealthy . Keep up your good work!
Hey Ted, enjoyed your profile. Got a kick out of the 'Hidden' humor. You're obviously a role model to many. Congrats on your many accomplishments & best of luck with your April goal. Thanks for sharing your great physique & your positive energy. God Bless...Dave
