When I Started:
Mar, 2006
How I Started:
I quit smoking and became a bit of a health nut. I've always dreamed of taking it to the next level, and this is the year I'm putting it into action! Although throughout my childhood I've been in competivtive dance I stopped when I turned 17.
Why I Love It:
The feeling of being healthy beats any drug high out there!
How I Stay Motivated:
Look in a mirror! And wicked music keeps me going.
To compete in a Figure competition by the end of this year!
Goal (Long):
My early teens I hated the way I appeared, even though everyone told me I was so beautiful. I remember as a young girl my grandmother always said how gorgeous I was, such a precious delicate little thing, I hated being called delicate or small. Every girl on my mother’s side of the family has issues with their weight, at some point you will hear them talk about their weight or appearance during a visit. Saying this, I grew up obsessed with my appearance, making sure I wouldn’t leave the house without make-up etc. I also never ate a meal in public with friends/boyfriends especially!
Around 17 years of age I began restricting my diet severely, I dropped from 100lbs. to 80lbs. My mother noticed my weight that summer while in a bathing suit. Since I was diagnosed with severe depression in my early teens and had been to about every psychiatrist/psychologist, my mom made an appointment. I knew exactly what I was doing to my body, I didn’t need anyone to tell me I had anorexia, I knew. I wouldn’t admit to it at first but something happened a couple of years into the illness, I met a specialist that scared the @$*! out of me. By telling me what my body was doing to keep itself alive, showing me other girls my age that were further along in the illness, and putting me in a group eating therapy. While I was in therapy I began reading a book by Jenny Lauren (the niece of Ralph Lauren) called “Home Sick”. This book helped me get through some of the tough times, while recovering, as well as practicing yoga with DVD’s, and meditation.
It was an extreme haul but in the end I’m glad I met the doctor who scared me. In just under five years I have damaged my liver, thyroid, and digestive system by restricting my diet to non-existent to severe. Last year I had to be put on thyroid pills to help level out my under active thyroid. Also I have to get my blood checked regularly to see if my iron levels are normal due to now being anemic.
I’m regaining weight from being on a proper clean eating plan and lifting 3-4 days a week. I have always admired women who can stand up on stage and show their hard work off. I want to be up there and be damn proud! This is the year, my year to compete!
Well, I've decided to give this blog a go and see if it can help with getting preped for competition mode. If anyone has great advice that I must know for a newbie figure competitor please do not hesitate in letting me know! I'm open to suggestions and questions as well. This month I've been...
