When I Started:
How I Started:
My dad had a few weights and a bar (no bench) in our basement and I had asked him if he would show me how to use them in 5th grade. So I would say thats about the time I started "lifting". We had to lift for track in high school and I loved it. This is when I started learning the "basics" of weight training. I really got into lifting in college for my career choice - Firefighter/Paramedic. I had always thought about competing but didn't know too much about it. Then one day a woman came up to me and said I had great shoulders; and that I should either be a bodybuilder or a boxer. Bodybuilding was more appealing due to the lack of blunt force head trauma. She contacted me with information and the rest is history.
Why I Love It:
It's a great stress reliever and it keeps me in shape for my job. Looking good is just a bonus.
How I Stay Motivated:
I "love" it when people (especially those who don't take care of their bodies) say to me "Oh, you don't want to get too big." or "Oh, you don't want to look like that." I decide what I want and what I don't want to look like. When people tell me I can't, I say bullshit. That just drives me even more.

Thank you very much, I didn't know him personally, but I went through USAR training for a year with Robin. She's an amazing woman and still can't believe she's not here.
GREAT luck at the Academy (Virginia?) I have NO doubt you'll do a great job, have a blast and work circles around most of the out of shape others there with you, LOL. I'd love to read about how it's going.
