When I Started:

How I Started:
Rachel McLish is who really got me interested in wanting to learn about body building, but I never did anything to create that kind of physique.
I was always active and athletic, so I never worried about what I ate.
I let myself go for a while after I graduated college. Continuing to eat crap, not exercising as much as I used to, plus, being a graphic artist sitting at a computer for 9 hours a day did a great job at helping me gain 20 pounds. I got into shape off and on over the years, but was never consistent. After I had my 3 kids, I wanted my body back, and I wanted to fulfill a dream I had which was to compete in a triathlon. I trained for 6 months and I competed. So, after realizing I could accomplish something like that, I have the confidence to accomplish the other dream I've always had which is to have a lean and defined physique.
Why I Love It:
Gives me a sense of accomplishment.
How I Stay Motivated:
BB.com.

Just knowing this is what I have to do to provide me with the best quality of life now and in the years to come.
BB Accomplishments:
12/08 I did 500 REAL pushups in 1 hour 45 minutes (next goal is to beat time).
------
3/2/09 500 pushups in 1 hour 18 minutes.
3/3/09 500 squats 17 minutes.
3/5/09 250 pullups in 2 hours 2 minutes.
3/6/09 1/4 mile walking lunges 21 minutes.
------
6/29/09 500 pushups in 58 minutes.
6/30/09 1,000 squats in 29 minutes.
7/2/09 250 pullups in 58 minutes.
7/3/09 1/2 mile walking lunges in 28 minutes.

This is what I'm starting out with. There's a bicep under there somewhere.  May progress. Thanks to Janthony's awesome routines. ABS.

Why I like this video: Watch the pushups he does at the end. I guarantee no one on BB can do them like that. This is not the breakdancing I remember from the 80's, LMAO.

Why I like this video: I saw Laird Hamilton do this on Iconoclasts when he and Eddie Vedder interviewed each other. I don't think I'll try this though.

They push me everyday. My oldest went to district in 3 track events (400m, 200m hurdles and 4 x 400m relay) this spring. My youngest is playing football and wrestling this year. He also took my wife to go rock climbing last week.

LOL. If you tell him about the ash from Mt St Helens going all the way to NJ he'll never sleep again. My nephew is just like that, he makes me laugh.

LOL. How old are your kids? We were already living in Europe so logistically it was no different than taking a vacation in another state but, yeah it was a great vacation. We stayed in a Villa 2 hours south of Naples near a little village called Maratea.

That's a big change in cholesterol. Was this with-in the last year or so? The groats I cook with 3c H2O to 1c Groats, a touch of honey and salt and cook them for about 50 minutes. I started mixing the grains for a better texture i.e. steel cut oats with groats and so on.

I think it's cool too. I remember the news when that thing blew. My youngest son is really interested in volcanos. He planned an entire vacation in S. Italy a few years back so we could see Mt Vesuvius. It was the best vacation I think we ever took.

I was looking at your breakfast menu. That's almost exactly what I eat, give or take a few eggs. I'm always sneaking a whole egg or two into my wife's breakfast. I recently started eating whole grains instead of rolled oats. Wheat berries, groats, spelt, barley and so on.

It's Mt St Helens so I don't think it's as much of a hike as it used to be...

I am BARELY moving at all today. My glutes are soooooo sore, that I curse the stairs every time I even think of them! I'm hoping that tomorrow will be better. Out of all of the challenges, the walking lunges were the ones that made me the most sore. OUCH! lol

I'm planning on climbing a mountain with my sons this afternoon, does that count? LOL. I saw some fireworks but no big shows. I'd like to take my family to a show in NYC or Boston in the next year or two. How about you?

It's always 2-3 days of delay for me. Like a little niggle of impending doom in the back of my head... How is your arm?

So it's 1am last night and the neighbors and I are sitting on the deck. I proceed to bust out that "nut " question...lol...they laughed and said " the walnut shape" and "squirrel with cheeks loaded!"

LMAO. There are certain foods that remind my wife of her culinarily deprived childhood that are verboten in the house. You are definitely 100% dyed-in-the-wool Irish, aren't you? I mean "Shannon"? JC, might as well be named Coleen. I always assumed you were, it would be tragic if you were only part Irish. :(

I am a big time down-to-earth kind of guy. That being said, big time NAY to all forms of public transportation. They are doing the fireworks over the Hudson tonight! Different terrace! I have my hopes up. They were out of Hamburger buns just now at the supermarket :( Had to get large English muffins. :( Got a kiddie pool today :)

Tidbit for ya': Last night in the cab on my way to dinner, I said to the wife, in as cutesy a way as I can muster: "Someone on the internet (you) referred to me as ornery. Do you think I'm ornery?" And she replied emphatically "Totally ornery!" :(

Well, its nothing malicious... its just that, well, I get so hungry sometimes. And I AM in a bulking phase - and I get to thinking how much protein is in one of those little buggers... oh jeez, now you've got me fiending for one!!!
