When I Started:
How I Started:
As a young teen I received one of those cheap cement-filled 110 lb. barbell sets and later, a pull up bar that I was able to mount in my closet door jam. But my real introduction to athletic training was joining the high school wrestling team where I earned a varsity letter in my freshman year.
Why I Love It:
I find that weight and cardio training are extremely efficient ways to maintain and enhance my health and physical fitness.
How I Stay Motivated:
I don't feel that I can take too much personal credit for what drives and compells my desire to stay fit. My strong will and determination is a mysterious gift that I am very blessed to have. There is the reward of good health. And, a certain natural respect or admiration from others that, I believe, comes from a subliminal knowledge of the difficulty and amount of discipline it takes to maintain a physical training regime, with the busy lives that we all have.
BB Accomplishments:
Nothing major, no contests ... I've never really considered myself to be a real bodybuilder.

Plan 1 - I always do at least a 12-15 minute warm up on the cardio machine, making sure I break a good sweat before touching any weights. I typically set the resistance at 14 (out of 20 max), with a goal of maintaining my heartrate above 125 for at least 10 minutes, tho the majority of the time I keep it at 140+ and above. What is your favorite cardiovascular exercise? Why?
I like the elliptical trainer. Its gentle on my knee joints, and the arm handles allow me to warm up my upper body too. Plus, by pumping my hands harder or more lightly, it gives me great regulation over my heartrate.I like the elliptical trainer. A couple of weeks ago I injured the thin strand that makes up the middle of my distal bicep tendon near the muscle by doing a wrist suppination exercise. Its still sore several weeks later. I am continuining to workout, but I try to avoid any exercises that irritate it. I really miss being able...
Scott--
Thanks for the "add"; I have reciprocated. Your ab pix at age 49 is awesome to say the least. We are living proof that there really *is* life after 40. LOL!
Thanks Scott, means a lot. I'll admit I played the role of the victim for the first few years after the anthrax thing but I finally gre up and came to understand that wasn't the case. I figure I am about 6 months of hard training from being where I am really happy again and maybe another 6 to be on goal. Thanks for the support!
