Overall Goal: I plan on running in the Manchester CT Road Race this fall 2009, my second time, and I also participated in the Tour Davita Cycle Tour 2009 , which is 250 miles through Michigan in September. I want to lose 20 lbs and gain muscle mass. My goal BF% is
Started reading Muscle Media magazine and got introduced to Body for Life and fell in love with the whole philosophy.
Why I Love It:
It makes me feel so good. It makes me feel alive, energetic and strong. Nothing feels as good as being fit does. Nothing!
How I Stay Motivated:
It's tough. I've been ill and had 3 surgeries last year. Sometimes I cannot workout but I always come back to it because I feel worse when I don't do it. I get motivated from seeing changes in my body, and from looking at inspirational pictures of other people's transformations. I found Pam Brown to be a huge inspiration. She's awesome!
BB Accomplishments:
Not there yet. I keep trying though. Doing my first 25 mile cycle ride felt like a real achievement, and each time I step foot in the gym I look at my notes from the previous session and try to lift one heavier. That really keeps me pushing hard.

Goal (Long):
About a year and a half ago I was very fit and doing well in my musclebuilding goal, but then I was struck down by Endometriosis after collapsing with pain while at work and that effectively put an end to my fitness for a while.
After 3 pelvic surgeries last year I'm dealing with a lot of pain, and my aim is to increase strength and flexibility in order to get rid of this pain and be stronger and more agile. I'm now working out again and have started taking Creatine again and aim to get back to where I was.
When I was a kid I used to get those Marvel comics, and in the back sections there were always these ads for Charles Atlas bodybuilding methods, and I was just fascinated by them. It was such an amazing concept to me, to be able to build your body bigger and better and stronger, and that just never died. I grew up loving Arnie and wanting to emulate that. It was a highlight of my life to go to California and visit Muscle Beach.
Weight Goal:
I want to LOSE 20 lb
Bodyfat Goal:
20%
Upcoming Contest:
Manchester Road Race and Tour Davita Cycle Race (250 miles)

What do you do before your workout to get motivated and energized?
I know that I am going to feel better after my workout, no matter how early it is and how tired I am. It revs me up for the day. Knowing that motivates me to get up earlier and go for it.

Awesome! Call me Jay, no one calls me Jason unless I'm in trouble. Oh, I'm hitting everything hard. I'm about 4 weeks out from my show so it's do or die time now.

Thank you for that wonderful message. I have dedicated the rest of my life to trying to get people to embrace fitness and to take ownership of their health and future fitness. If anything I have written or done has had a positive effect for you then I am honored. I am also glad to see that you are working toward your own fitness goals & dreams. Way to go!
I too am a Bill Phillips fan and believe that he was quite a bit ahead of his time in championing weight loss by actually eating more often along with lifting weights and doing cardio. I am not a big fan of the supplement industry though which leads us to believe we can’t achieve any results unless we ingest their particular product. My wife and I used just the basic mutli-vitamin, protein, creatine & glutamine and I believe we did pretty well. Best of luck.
A great way to reach the shape you want is by following the Body for Life program. My wife (bodyspace: judimax) went from size 12/14 to 4/6 and I lost over 50 lb’s and went from 36% to 10% bodyfat during the 12-week program. I suggest you give it a look-see and decide what you think. I believe that by using their proven nutrition, weightlifting & cardio program you will be amazed at the changes that your body will make. Let me know if you wish more info.
