I was 145 lbs at 6'1 in high school. I got tired of people telling me to "go eat a sandwich" and decided to do something about it. I went to my local community centre gym and started lifting. I never got any personal training, never really read books, magazines, etc. I learned everything I know from trial and error as well as from some of the great people that I've met at gyms over the years (I've been a member of 5 different gyms off the top of my head). It hasn't bean the most efficient method but it has been a great journey and I feel like I've earned every bit of knowledge that I posess.
Why I Love It:
Whether I've just broken up with a gf, lost my job, failed an exam at school, lost a lot of money, or hell, even had a GREAT day, the gym is that friend that's always there no matter what. I can be thrown in jail, all my possessions can be stolen from me but nobody, NOBODY can take my body away.
How I Stay Motivated:
Over all? Quitting is not an option. Bodybuilding is part of my life. I can't see myself giving it up. My longest break from the gym was about 5 months when my local gym closed down for renovations and I felt horrible.
At the gym? I've been a huge fan of heavy metal for about as long as I've been lifting. Nothing helps me lift than some thrash metal pumping into my ears.
I want to compete in my first natural bodybuilding show in the Spring of 2010.
Goal (Long):
I'm currently bulking till the end of the year to put on a little extra muscle. It's a relatively clean bulk and I don't necessarily have a goal weight set. Early next year I will cut down and the goal is to get into contest shape by around April-May. I've never competed before but I've gone to a show this year and going to another one in a couple of weeks and after seeing a show as a spectator I'm actually fairly confident I can be competitive at a natural competition. My goal is to place 3rd or better at my first competition. I DO have a specific show in mind already but I don't want to say till it gets closer to the date.
SO I'm down a total of 20 lbs after almost two and a half months. This weekend I went camping with some friends which included a lot of drinking. I don't feel guilty at all as I felt I need a break anyways. So I took a progress pic before the weekend and weighed myself at around 202 lbs. ...
