Background

When I Started: Nov 2010
HOW I STARTED:

I never really took fitness seriously until I joined the military in 2006. After BMT I realized how good I felt being in shape so I started doing pushups and situps every chance I got and would go to the gym and do what I thought at the time was weightlifting, but in 2009 I started putting on weight that I didn't want and I was fed up with it, so I started doing some research and buying books and reviewing programs until finally I created a program that fit my lifestyle and my goals.

WHY I LOVE IT:

I love the feeling of accomplishment you get after reaching a new 1RM and the feeling sore the next day being a reminder of your accomplishments. I like the increase in confidence you obtain just from knowing that your becoming a better person a stronger more healthier you.

My Workout Program

About to start my journey to a better me in a few days, I originally wanted to start working out when I arrived here to my undisclosed location but figured I would hold off till I get settled in due to my OCD not letting me start in the middle of my work week. I'm working nights so it's kind of confusing how the days are going to work out, but I think I have a good plan and am really excited on starting. The day after my off day I'm going to start and the workout should look something like this. Days 1, 3, and 5 will be lifting days and Days 2, 4, and 6 will be calisthenics followed by cardio. As you can see below I'm trying to keep everything as symmetric as possible (OCD). The days will be split up by week A and B, where week B will be alternating the days around to create the symmetry.

Week A

Day 1 - Back Squat, Bench Press, Power Clean, Overhead Extension

Day 2 - Plyo Pushups - Failure, Regular Pushups - Failure, Girl Pushups - Failure

Day 3 - Front Squat, Deadlift, "Overhead" Press, Barbell Curl

Day 4 - GHD Situps - Failure, Leglifts - Failure, Regular Situps - Failure

Day 5 - Back Squat, Bench Press, Power Clean, Overhead Extension

Day 6 - Pullups - Failure, Kipping Pullups - Failure, Assisted Pullups - Failure

Off Day

For cardio I plan on sticking to running due to the fact that I am in the military and need to get faster. The running is going to be divided into what I like to call "cycles" where one cycle is 2 weeks long. For the first cycle I will be doing sprints to raise my VO2 max and on the alternating cycle I will be running a 5k.

My Motivation Program

I would have to say the main reason would be to be a good role model for my kids. I find that if you live a certain lifestyle then your children will tend to follow in your footsteps. I also like the fact that my wife enjoys having a strong husband which is always a nice thing :D
