How I Started:
I started working out seriously when I was in the 9th grade. I wanted to get bigger and stronger for football with the distant dream of playing in the NFL. I started training at 155 lbs. During my high school football years I gained 65 lbs and began my freshman season in Division II college football at 220 lbs. Four years and 50 lbs later I entered training camp as a free agent defensive end with an NFL team at 270 lbs and 12% body fat. Unfortunately, my NFL dream ended abruptly when I tore my hamstring.
From that time in 1984 until 2000 working out was an integral part of my daily routine. In 2001 thru 2003 I was working long hours and traveling every week and didn’t workout for nearly three years. Since that time I have been working out off and on and am now ready to make it an integral part of my daily routine once again.
Why I Love It:
It is my stress reliever. You also only get out of it only what you put into it. So, if you are going to do it, do it HARD and enjoy the PUMP!
How I Stay Motivated:
Being a role model for my kids is one of my biggest motivations. I talk to them about what my goals are and they can see me work hard and track my progress as I strive to achieve them. They also provide very good spots when needed. Also, reading the profiles of the men and women on Bodyspace that have made phenomenal body transformations is a great inspiration. Last but not Least is that I DO NOT WANT TO LOOK MY AGE!!!!!!!

What type of injury was it? How long were you injured? How did you recover?
I hurt my lower back doing squats. It took about 6 weeks for me to be able to do squats again. During the 6 weeks I used Heat and Ice therapy along with stretching and sports massage.

What is the most common reason that somebody gets injured while lifting?
My short term goal was to gain 10 Lbs of muscle and not gain any body fat. I have accomplished that and acutally dropped my body fat by 1%. I think this will be the easiest goal to meet since my body responds quickly when I first start back up. My next goal is to gain another 10 Lbs by May...
hey RC how was your Thanksgiving? I hope ya did not over doit. I did but nothing that cannot be cured
how are your workouts going.
stay focused and have a great weekend
Good morning, Rick. Anything new going on? How's the back comming along? I'm back into it real strong now and am once again addicted. It's GREAT! Still getting in a bike ride when I can, hopefully get another one in tomorrow, the weather's supposed to be pretty decent. Any big plans for the weekend? Is golfing wrappin up for the season? Anyhow, trake it easy, and have a great day.
Hey, Rick. How's the back comming along? I'm back into the lifting real good now, and loving it. Try not to get washed away w/ all the rain we're going to be getting over the next couple of days. Anyhow, take it easy, and have a great day.
Good morning, Rick. Hows things in Va.? I'm starting to get back into the swing of things. Last week was the first time in while that I managed to get in 5 w/o's. It felt good! Haven't given up on the cycling yet, but nice days for it are scarce. Anyhow, keep at it, and have a great week.
Hey, Rick. How's things going ? I'm starting to get back into the swing of things. Not back up to 5x/week yet, but headed there. Looks like cycling season is starting to come to an end. I did do 63 mi. on Wednsday though. Now it's time to work on putting on a little more mass. Anyhow, hope all is well, and have a great weekend.
Are you doing Body For Life again or are you starting a new program this time? You already look like your getting right back to where you were. Awesome Job!

You definitely don't look your age! Where about's in Virginia do you live? I grew up in Virginia and my dad and family still live there. I grew up in the Yorktown area. Take care and have a great weekend!
Hey, Rick. Good to hear from you. Hope things straighten out w/ the lower back for you. I'm still doing more riding than lifting, at least 2x a week (usually about 70 mi./wk total) only lifting 2x/week, but that will increase here soon. I ended up getting a used Trek 2120 carbon fiber bike, love it! I've also lost quite a bit of weight w/ all the riding, down to 155. Anyhow, take it easy, and have a great day.
i am hitting it hard man. work and life is so demanding it makes it hard to get your time with the iron or the running shoes. keepyour motivation man. and if you do drop to 8% bf, let me know the secret (i'm assumingit's not drink red wine freely...)
Hey Rick, how's everything with you? Cycling is great, in fact, I'm going to look at a Trek 2120 this afternoon. Seams to be doing wonders for my quads too. I've slacked off quite a bit on the lifting (maybe twice a week), but that will pick back up as soon as it gets cool out. We even went and got my wife a bike a few weeks ago, she rode 18 mi. w/ me the one night. Anyhow, good to hear from you, hope all is well. Have a great day.
