I think my first encounter with "weight lifting" was a rusty old Universal "Gym" in High School. Nothing profound there other than the corrosion. That is where it started, but realizing lately the importance of diet has been a new genesis. I got motivated to pay more attention to the intake when I noticed just a couple of minor changes in when I was eating started to take weight off. I was surprised that it was that easy, then I got pissed wishing I had figured this out 10-15 years ago! When I look back over this year [2007], I realize I did things incrementally: first I just stopped eating after 6:00 PM at night. I dropped 20 + lbs in just a few weeks. Then cut out all starch based carbohydrates, i.e. potatoes, bread, rice, corn, pasta as well as junk/processed food. All my carbs came strictly from fruit or green vegetables for a time. The weight loss was even more dramatic. While I can't emphasize enough how much the change in diet had to do with the changes in me, there always has been a pretty intense workout and regiment of supplements going on at the same time.
Why I Love It:
Love is a strong word, better: Why is working out is one of the major focuses in my life? It rockets up the self confidence and creates discipline that has spilled over into other areas of my life. It has put me into a community where I have made some profound friendships.
How I Stay Motivated:
I keep images in front of me of what I want to become. I have got a couple of the posters from www.animalpak.com hanging in my office and I have bodybuilder's shots glued into the workout log I use at the gym. I surf around here at bodybuilding.com as well as www.animalpak.com. I try new supplements when I can. Having a workout partner is also huge.

Locker Room at the gym where I began to realize this was working and it was all about diet not just hitting the weights hard. I had lost about 45 lbs at this point.
Increase core strength, add mass and continue to quest for increased definition. To add 5 lbs of muscle by the end of June. [Starting at 196 as of May 6th]
Goal (Long):
To put into practice in my own workouts what I train others to do. To have the mass and definition that motivates others to what to do something about themselves.
This guy really spurs me on and occasionally flashes caution lights my way about things I might be undertaking/considering. He has made some amazing progress over the last couple of years I have known him over this site and I am certain, with the determination he has, he will get where he wants to be. I look forward to seeing that.
He is a man of focus that has been a major source of encouragement over the last couple of years as I have posted on this site. His progress pics betray a well mapped journey to discover his genetic potential and I am quite certain he is going to find it. This is one guy that I have met over this site that I am reasonably certain some day I am going to meet [hes lives not too far from where I grew up!].
Description: I did this vid for my brother Brad, but it explains how I use a foam roller for dealing with sore tendons in the bicep and chest.
Progress as of Feb 9, 2009
Played: 107
Description: A progress video ...
Incline Bicep Curls
Played: 152
Description: Incline DB Curls ... one of my favorite bicep moves. The weight here is not too impressive, but it is not about the weight, it is about doing it correctly, eh? 2 x 15 is what I was doing this workout.
Why I like this video: I have set up an extended version of this workout in my workout log and do it on occassion - perticularly when my low back is bugging me.
Had an odd thing happen yesterday that has been on my mind since. There is a particular client [from the day job] of mine that I see in the gym off and on that has been obviously engaged in some workouts that have kept is mid to late 30s something frame looking better than most. Yesterday however...
Workouts are always evolving ... I avoid doing the same workout twice. I am always switching things around. Some week's I'll go for heavy, other weeks I'll be doing higher reps and lower weight. Change is the constant.
Used to supplement with it growing up. Namely because its the only substance known to be able to kill a virus. If I get totally knocked down by somethin, I usually add it in. One of our proteins has it also (of course makes it the most expensive one we have). Very good stuff!
I've started making sure that I do pullups every week. I used to hate them now I love em. Yeah, you've got goofy facial expressions and I've got blurry ones. We'd be terrible models.
