I think my first encounter with "weight lifting" was a rusty old Universal "Gym" in High School. Nothing profound there other than the corrosion. That is where it started, but realizing lately the importance of diet has been a new genesis. I got motivated to pay more attention to the intake when I noticed just a couple of minor changes in when I was eating started to take weight off. I was surprised that it was that easy, then I got pissed wishing I had figured this out 10-15 years ago! When I look back over this year [2007], I realize I did things incrementally: first I just stopped eating after 6:00 PM at night. I dropped 20 + lbs in just a few weeks. Then cut out all starch based carbohydrates, i.e. potatoes, bread, rice, corn, pasta as well as junk/processed food. All my carbs came strictly from fruit or green vegetables for a time. The weight loss was even more dramatic. While I can't emphasize enough how much the change in diet had to do with the changes in me, there always has been a pretty intense workout and regiment of supplements going on at the same time.
Why I Love It:
Love is a strong word, better: Why is working out is one of the major focuses in my life? It rockets up the self confidence and creates discipline that has spilled over into other areas of my life. It has put me into a community where I have made some profound friendships.
How I Stay Motivated:
I keep images in front of me of what I want to become. I have got a couple of the posters from www.animalpak.com hanging in my office and I have bodybuilder's shots glued into the workout log I use at the gym. I surf around here at bodybuilding.com as well as www.animalpak.com. I try new supplements when I can. Having a workout partner is also huge.
BB Accomplishments:
The way folks talk, I think it would be safe to say I have been an inspiration.

This photo is included just for a point of reference -- it is rather old. I actually began having success taking the weight off in early 2007. This picture is with my cuz Nichole in the Summer of 2004 at a family gathering in Iowa when I was probably pushing 270. Didn't use the scale much,...
Challenge #3 [by June 30th]: Add 3-5lbs of Muscle - maintaining current body fat at 8%.
Goal (Long):
To get to the point where I can actually look at myself and think, cool - it is time to think about getting into a bodybuilding show. Not that I think I actually would - but the goal is to get to that point.
Why I like this video: It is pretty cool how these guys laid this all out.
Back Pain Exercises

Why I like this video: I have set up an extended version of this workout in my workout log and do it on occassion - perticularly when my low back is bugging me.
HIT program [Mark Mentzer]: Four weight training workouts spread out over two weeks ... Tuesday/Friday schedule with streching and aerobics on days off from weights. Glance at the blog... I generally keep that current with my workouts.
Hey buddy, How are you doing? Dam you look great. You are really doing man...awesome. I have been injured and laying off the weights kinda depresses me but I am mending and hope to get back to it...

I just ordered the calipers. Thanks for the info. Who knows maybe I have been in single digits for a while now??? I have been using those calculators online. I don't think they are very accurate.
The 36's are getting loose, last week I squatted 365x20, I think I need to run with strength gains for a while and not worry about carrying an extra 20 lbs.
