When I Started:
Mar, 2006
How I Started:
I think my first encounter with "weight lifting" was a rusty old Universal "Gym" in High School. Nothing profound there other than the corrosion. That is where it started, but realizing lately the importance of diet has been a new genesis. I got motivated to pay more attention to the intake when I noticed just a couple of minor changes in when I was eating started to take weight off. I was surprised that it was that easy, then I got pissed wishing I had figured this out 10-15 years ago! When I look back over this year [2007], I realize I did things incrementally: first I just stopped eating after 6:00 PM at night. I dropped 20 + lbs in just a few weeks. Then cut out all starch based carbohydrates, i.e. potatoes, bread, rice, corn, pasta as well as junk/processed food. All my carbs came strictly from fruit or green vegetables for a time. The weight loss was even more dramatic. While I can't emphasize enough how much the change in diet had to do with the changes in me, there always has been a pretty intense workout and regiment of supplements going on at the same time.
Why I Love It:
Love is a strong word, better: Why is working out is one of the major focuses in my life? It rockets up the self confidence and creates discipline that has spilled over into other areas of my life. It has put me into a community where I have made some profound friendships.
How I Stay Motivated:
I keep images in front of me of what I want to become. I have got a couple of the posters from www.animalpak.com hanging in my office and I have bodybuilder's shots glued into the workout log I use at the gym. I surf around here at bodybuilding.com as well as www.animalpak.com. I try new supplements when I can. Having a workout partner is also huge.

Locker Room at the gym where I began to realize this was working and it was all about diet not just hitting the weights hard. I had lost about 45 lbs at this point.
Let me know if you see progress. I am going to stay the course through the end of the year, maybe up the calories a wee bit more, the then pull back after the new year. Cool! Looking to add muscle here ...
Increase core strength, add mass and continue to quest for increased definition.
Goal (Long):
To put into practice in my own workouts what I train others to do. To have the mass and definition that motivates others to what to do something about themselves.
I was asked this past week by the coach of the water polo team at the local high school [who I see in the gym on occasion] to help him in setting up core training for the team. Feeling kinda flattered ... I guess he has seen me in action and the work I have done with a handful of folks I have...
Workouts are always evolving ... I avoid doing the same workout twice. I am always switching things around. Some week's I'll go for heavy, other weeks I'll be doing higher reps and lower weight. Change is the constant.
Will set the blackberry to remind me to eat every 2hrs. I have a question on training cycle. I started 1wk cardio for 5days out of wk & 2days rest to help burn fat. Once the first wk of cardio is over I start 3wks weight training 5days out of wk & 2days rest. Finally 1wk total rest only yoga or stretching. My days off will be Mon & Fri. I noticed you take days off consecutive days (Sat & Sun). Does my plan make sense and is it better to keep my days off consecutive instead of separating them.
Great analogy with a ship’s rudder, I'm ex-Navy totally get it. Trying my best on diet but it's the hardest part of transforming your body. I’m not eating badly just missing meals. My job schedule meetings, conference calls & daily travel between sites make it difficult to eat every 2-3 hrs but I'll keep trying. Definitely my life style was not suited to good health. I’m going to try the weekly packing of food instead of daily.
Your advice is so on point especially when it comes to diet (I hate that word) eating pattern. I've been lucky to have found new foods that are good for me that I like. What's helps is to think about what I eat. I never did that before. Plan Plan Plan
Txs Brain got the nerve to post pictures w/ your encouragement. Looked at your diet, WOW all you eat. Can't believe you lost weight eating so much. Good news for me 90% I like. Almonds are my favorite, dried tomatoes, avocado, chicken breast, ground meat, brown rice all great. A little trouble w/ egg whites figure add mushrooms, onions, peppers & tomatoes can’t hurt. The oatmeal is bland but adding cranberries or blueberries is that ok? What's out for me is cottage cheese & cabbage.
thanks for the kind words man. given the source, it means alot. you hold a high standard to work to brother. my goal is to get some killer def like you. how goes your training?
Fab news, yep will watch your gains with interest!Damn best days of our lives i reckon.Hat and gloves training at my cousins in his garage too for those cold winter months!
