Run a 10K in under 40 minutes, get leaner and lose belly flab, improve overall fitness.
Goal (Long):
I just completed my first half 2008 goal of finishing an Olympic distance triathlon. Time: 2:39:55.
Goals through the end of the year:
1) Increase weekly running mileage to 35 mpw.
2) Run a 5K in under 20 minutes this summer.
3) Run a 10K in under 40 minutes before end of year.
4) Reduce BF% and total weight from around 170 to low 160s, both to improve running speed potential and to eliminate fat around waist.
5) Improve swimming technique and speed.
6) Cycle more frequently both as a form of cross training for running and to improve speed and endurance on the bike for another triathlon.
My primary focus will be on running and on diet.
Secondary focus will be on swimming, cycling, and strength training to improve muscle definition and supplement endurance training.
Long term goals: Run a sub-3 hour marathon and run the Western States 100 mile endurance run.
What type of nutrition plan are you currently following? Give full details.
1) Plenty of protein through chicken, fish, nuts, whey powder, eggs. Try to get some protein with each meal.
2) Little to no soda, candy, chips, french fries, fast food, sugary foods.
3) I drink water, skim or 1% milk, wine, some spirits (gin, tequila, bourbon). That's about it. No soda, almost no fruit juice, beer only rarely.
4) Eat 5 times a day or so, trying to keep meals smaller.
5) Try to maximize quantity and variety of vegetables and fruits.
6) I don't get fussy about protein/fat/carbohydrate percentages. I focus on eating good, whole food as opposed to processed food.
7) I think a little fat is a good thing.
8) I love carbs. I just try to focus on good, whole-food carbs as opposed to junk, processed carbs. I love pasta and bread and have to be careful there.1) Plenty of protein through chicken, fish, nuts, whey powder, eggs. Try to get some protein with each meal.
2) Little to no soda, candy, chips, french fries, fast food, sugary foods.
3) I drink water...more

Yes
What is your favorite protein powder?
Chocolate-flavored whey protein -- various brands.
O.K., de-flabbification has stalled. I weighed in at 171.8 today, so there's been no improvement in two weeks and in fact I've backslid a bit. It's hard to try too hard knowing the cruise is coming up soon. I've given myself until Labor Day to get my weight down to 165, so I'm...
thank you! sunday's the big day... AAAAHHHH!! i'm ready, Pman.. ready to prove to myself exactly what i'm made of and capable of :) where will you be going on your vacation?
i have to admit, i'm tired but i'm ready! family starts to arrive on friday so i'm taking the next few days to mellow out cuz once they get here it will be anxiety central.. haha.. and yep, nothing wrong with your memory.. 3 in 3 :)
I guess I'm interested because your time is very similar to mine, and your experience was so positive. Plus been trying to travel a bit more for the fun of it. (going to Canada in a few weeks to think about the possibility of signing up for Ironman Canada!)
Dude, it's totally off the hook, well, everything is, the hills on the lake Stevens course, my life, my training, even my clothes. heheh, but no, seriously, you should pick a tri in Cali somewhere for early next year, and let me know about it, you had such success at your first tri ever.
The training is going crazzzzy!! Seems like everyday I'm feeling better about being out working out for more and more hours! Really hard to say exact or consistant numbers though, I don't stick to a schedule, I think I'm into it enough so I can put the hours in without scheduling, just enjoying it. anyways, next weekend it the big one for me, it's gonna be crazy, the bike course is brutal. I'll let you know elevation, but I think it's like 3-4k elevation per loop
Right now I'm cutting and lifting, I'd like to get my weight to 190, I'm 200 lbs right now. Starting in Sept, I'm probably going to hardgain which means 3K cal a day and a lot of lifting to try to pack on the muscle.
Thanks so much! Yes, I'd say I;ve added bit in the past year...still more work to do. Seeing your pic makes me think triathalon...haven't attempted one yet, maybe next yeat?
thank you, Pman! =) i know physically i can do it, but it's gonna be a big battle of the brain to double up the bike and run! the swim really isn't much longer than the olympic.. THANK MERCY! =)
Congrats on the accomplishment! I am focusing on building up my V taper..to even out the look of my physique! It's funny, the more I train my back, the more muscle I put on my legs! Maybe I need to start running!!
