Overall Goal: Run faster and get leaner and stronger in 2009.
Fit Status:
I am in the best shape of my adult life right now, having lost signficant weight and bodyfat and set personal bests in all running distances
I achieved my most important fitness goals in 2008: After starting the year with Achilles tendonitis, which left me wondering if I'd ever run regularly again, I competed in my first triathlon in June, achieved PRs in the 5K and half marathon in the fall, and ran my first marathon in December, finishing in 3:20:00 and qualifying for the Boston Marathon.
My primary goal for 2009 is to continue improving at running, concentrating especially in getting faster at the shorter distances, such as the 5K and 10K. I want to run a 5K in under 19 minutes, and a 10K in under 40 minutes, and a half marathon in under 1 hour 30 minutes.
Early in the year, both for the sake of looking better and for the sake of running faster, I want to reduce my weight from around 172 to under 165, and reduce my bodyfat percentage, so I achieve a leaner look, with more muscular definition.
I plan to engage in a moderate program of strength training, mostly to supplement my running and to make me look better. I plan to concentrate on exercises like pushups and abdominal exercises. I may also try to improve my ability in swimming and cycling, but those are lesser priorities.
Weight Goal:
I want to LOSE 8 lb
Bodyfat Goal:
12%
Upcoming Contest:
Half Marathon

What type of nutrition plan are you currently following? Give full details.
1) Plenty of protein through chicken, fish, nuts, whey powder, eggs. Try to get some protein with each meal.
2) Little to no soda, candy, chips, french fries, fast food, sugary foods.
3) I drink water, skim or 1% milk, wine, some spirits (gin, tequila, bourbon). That's about it. No soda, almost no fruit juice, beer only rarely.
4) Eat 5 times a day or so, trying to keep meals smaller.
5) Try to maximize quantity and variety of vegetables and fruits.
6) I don't get fussy about protein/fat/carbohydrate percentages. I focus on eating good, whole food as opposed to processed food.
7) I think a little fat is a good thing.
8) I love carbs. I just try to focus on good, whole-food carbs as opposed to junk, processed carbs. I love pasta and bread and have to be careful there.1) Plenty of protein through chicken, fish, nuts, whey powder, eggs. Try to get some protein with each meal.
2) Little to no soda, candy, chips, french fries, fast food, sugary foods.
3) I drink water...more

I ran the Shriner's 8K race this morning. It's part of the Pacific US Track and Field Assocation road race circuit, so it always has a lot of fast runners from all over California and some other parts west as well. It was my first 8K ever. My goal was to try to set and stay at a roughly...
I was able to find some motivation. Ran a H half marathon last weekend in 1:41:06. The course was a half mile to long. Everyones garmins were showing 13.60 or 13.67. Good run any way. This week I may have a 40 mile week. Never did that before. What have you been doing lately?
Hey, Thanks alot. Training is going ok might be hitting a burn out preiod. Seems runs are getting tougher to do. Hope it's just the heat. How's everything out your way going?
Funny you say that because I was thinking that too...my category is 35 to 44 and of course I am 44 so..I think you are right turning 45 will be great:) In the mean time I will try to get a lot better with the posing etc......congratulations to you:)
Holy COW,that's absolutely amazing and studly - way to go, my friend!! Definitely let me know the details of the 8k... FB is facebook, a lot of my 'close' bb.com friends are on there :) Good luck on the race!!
All is awesome in Pixi-Land - did the Mud Run last weekend (10k) and had a blast, though somewhat paying for it... still dragon boat racing and most likely doing a half this August. How are you, my awesome running friend?? Sorry I'm not really on here anymore... if you're on FB, let me know! :)
the only "race" i have is in aug.. it's a 5k fun run with my sis, who is NOT a runner..she's more the ballet kinda gal.. but i'm touched she asked me to help her get in shape for it :) good luck in your upcoming runs
yeah i've been doing a 5k a day and lifting 6 days a week. I do go for time everytime. I shoot for 20 min or under. I have some 4 milers and 10ks but no marathons coming up
It is tricky..because even at my age my body wants to get bigger with all my heavy training for me lots of cardio and eating clean and keeping calories maintenance 1800 to 2000. BUT it is hard to stay where it best suits my atletics...Your goals are different so obviously you will have to do what suits you re your getting faster goals...
that sounds like a great race! i was in a race that had a tri..duathlon..5k and 10k...i was thinking i was at the mid-back of the pack until the 5k turn-around and realized everyone in front of me was turning around.. that's when i realized i was in the lead! haha.. :) i averaged an 8:05 mile and set a PR for myself as well.. WTG US! :)
