When I Started:
Feb, 2006
How I Started:
I toyed around with weights in my teens and tried a few sports, but nothing really stuck. My folks were sedentary artists. Their bodies were not their canvas. Around 1990, I decided to make a change in my life. I found a small gym and stuck with it for about 6 months. I had a small business at the time and it started to demand all my time. I fell off the wagon...
I had a few more starts over the years, but again, I did not keep at it. In 2006 I weighed 330 pounds, I was smoking, my marriage of 15 years was falling apart, my business had gone bankrupt, I had just lost my crappy job selling cars. In other words, rock bottom. I realized that the choice was life or death, pretty much literally.
I chose life.
Why I Love It:
I feel peaceful after working out. I guess I like endorphins :@)
How I Stay Motivated:
Seeing and feeling progress in my body. Interacting with others who share my challenges and goals here at bb.com
BB Accomplishments:
Losing 100 lbs on my first transformation back in 2006. I went from 330 to 225 in about 8 months.

Do you monitor your heart rate while doing cardio?
Yes
Do you use a heart rate monitor? Which one?
My HRM was stolen out of my locker. But the thief left the strap. I just put on the strap. I usually use the elliptical, and it can read the output of my Polar strap.
What heart rate do you aim for while doing cardio? Why?

How long do you rest between sets on average? Why?
90 seconds. Enough time for some recovery, but I like to keep my heart rate up.

How many reps per set do you usually do? Why?
I mix it up, but generally it is either the standard 5, 8-12, or 15 rep range. Variety of stimulus is good.
I was referred to another surgeon for further assessment of my shoulder. I finally had that appointment on Friday. Long story short, my left shoulder moves around in the socket, specifically, it moves backwards during pressing movements. It seems that I have developed osteoarthritis in...

thanks Pedestrium, but I'm not looking to get that big... I'd like to get into figure and bikini competitions, so I need more of a feminine lean physique. Although she has some freaking dedication for sure!
Hey thanks Peter! Doc put me on a good antibiotic and some prednisone and It kicked in and I'm starting to feel better. Being housebound gave me cabin fever but I will be back to the routine in a few days. Hope that all is well with you bro! All the best!

oh no about the shoulder...Arthur is no joke…MRI spotted some in mine. I use the book to make sure I’m working the right muscles so not to hurt something else. That being said. I’m not squatting with the smith machine because the bar resting on my shoulder huts now. have a super weekend!
Pedestrium, i recently purchased Strength Training Anatomy by Frederic Delavier it shows ALL of the muscle groups used during various weight training moves & great information about shoulder injuries. was surprised to learn that those over 40 are more likely to have issues such as we are experiencing and anatomically we are not designed to lift weight above our heads as most military shoulder exercising requires hence this is why Arnold invented the Arnold Press
