I grew up with my dad, Special Forces Green Beret, he was in great shape by weight lifting and running like Forest Gump. I would run with him and workout in our home gym at a young age. I remember he even had me pushing cars that were in neutral when I was 9.
I was also into tons of sports growing up everything from ballet, basketball, soccer, football, martial arts, gymnastics, snowboarding, mountain biking and more. As I grew older though the team sports were harder to coordinate, so I started to opt for sports that only required one person, such as running, weight lifting, surfing and skating.
I didn’t really start weight lifting heavily till I graduated from high school & someone pointed out my poor eating habits, lack of “real” exercise, and my gain of a little bit of unhealthy weight. I was skinny fat.
Why I Love It:
Working out allows me to have a great amount of energy and stamina for other activities; releases endorphins that make me feel better about life and myself; keeps my body in shape as I age, which I will benefit from for life.
A recent goal of mine is to be able to go to bed tired from physical activity, to know my body was used, to feel the muscles pump, the lungs fill with fresh air, and to really feel the weight of my body as it releases into the mattress as I rest.
How I Stay Motivated:
I just try to remember that working out is a LIFE style, not a temporary fix to a weight/health problem.
I do not track my eating, but I more or less gauged everything based on how I feel. I know that it is not dying that is painful, but it is living that is, so while I am alive I want to feel, I want my body to know that I am truly alive. This forces me to workout harder, run longer, try new things, and to respect myself.

I was still 17 and had started seriously lifting weights, did very little cardio. I am an endomorph so putting on any weight at all has been a constant battle.
I should probably actually take real progress pictures, but eh, whatever.
Continue to build a ballet dancer type body, increase my flexibility, and run a 7 minute mile.
Goal (Long):
I have built a lot of muscle over the past year and I am very proud of that. So I plan to maintain the muscle routine.
Now is my chance to finally lose a little bit of the unhealthy fat that I have kept with me due to lack of wanting to eat/drink healthy most of the time. I know my eating habits will not change. I am super healthy while at work and during the week and then eat what I want on the weekends. I do plan on curbing my beer drinking a little bit to help out with this and then increase some of my cardio.
Somewhat in line with the small bit of fat thing, is that I would like to be able to run a 7 minute mile again. My goal is to at least try this 5 times a week. On my first try I made it .33 miles before I had to slow down to a 9 minute mile.
In order to hit my flexibility goal I have started yoga and think it will be a healthy way to regain the flexibility that I desire. So I cannot wait to see the progression. I am also hoping it helps out with joint health as well.
So I picked the holidays for my time to start getting everything back on a tight schedule. Sounds crazy I know, with all the fluctuations in work and not taking any classes my schedule is not consistent, but that is why I chose this time of year. I figured if I can be consistent with my...
Workout Routine
(What I try to stick to: Not all cardio is done, this sometimes is based on mood, motivation, energy levels, and time constraints. I feel I have enough scheduled that if I miss some that it will not be that bad.)
All weight lifting routines done till failure, and if I am...

I can relate to your blog (I couldn't post a comment). I'm not Joe Athlete or a BB'r. But at 47, I'm in decent shape. I avoid wearing tanktop shirts (except at the gym), or tight fittng shirts. I don't want my friends to think I'm showing off that I do have some definition & that I'm not carrying around a big ole gut.
