Prior to starting at the Gym, I had been very underweight (dangerously so) for my entire life. I had very prominent scoliosis which generated clearly obvious postural issues (along side the underweight classification).
At 21 years of age, I was sick of cosmetically looking ugly, and was tired of having physical limitations due to scoliosis. By 2004 (age 21), I began taking the Gym seriously, in order to look better, gain confidence, and manage my scoliosis (in combination with medical professionals).
Why I Love It:
I'm in the midst of completing my Exercise & Sport Science degree, and absolutely enjoy learning about how the human body works, its adaptations to exercise stimulus, and the numerous / countless benefits exercise has for the body.
It's always impressive to see others transform and control their lives; where exercise is an activity that we all can enjoy.
Learning about it, working in the field, and experiencing it through my own activities is something I just absolutely enjoy. It's something I can be selfish with.
How I Stay Motivated:
Having been skinny my entire life prior to the Gym - my cosmetic appearance is always a great motivator. For the first time - ever - I'm happy to walk around without a shirt.
Though, my main driving force, is for health, and for competitive reasons (not for body building competition - but for my own personal competitive nature with friends).
Otherwise, as I will be training athletes in the future, I wanted to "look the part" , and also experience the same kinds of stimulus my athletes will perform - in order to be a better coach and better professional.
BB Accomplishments:
Gaining over 20kgs (44lbs) of solid weight, whilst maintaining a 10.5% body fat level. Also, eating cleaner, and lifting heavier than ever before.
I was also once a skinny man for most of my life - As we both have similar pasts (as far as body composition); his present physique is definitely a goal of mine; and certainly inspirational.
Every time we seem to turn on the Television, watching day-time television shows, or those late night infomercials that promise the world, yet deliver very little; we always tend to see a tonne of exercise equipment claiming to target specific area's, ensuring results that are...
Great progress Nicholas. I can see you've been adding mass in shoulders and chest! Good luck on Legs. I started out on Leg Press, Squats and Lunges. Those exercises helped me fill out my boxer-briefs. Much Respect Aussie!
