What got me started and has motivated me over the years to stay fit and healthy has varied about as much as my life has. I believe that is the key to why it has worked consistently for me for about 33 years. Essentially in chronological order, here are some of the things that have motivated me over the years:
I was a small and scrawny wimp as a kid! I wanted to do something about it, so I did.
To improve my self-esteem and looks.
I joined the military and was self-motivated to stay in shape and be the best G.I. I could be.
Concerns about the effects of aging.
To be an example to my kids.
To avoid doctor visits due to medical problems.
A strong need to be able to do for myself and others.
Fitness helps me feel better.
I needed to lose weight, especially around my mid-section, in my mid-40´s.
Now my motivation is to be physically, nutritionally, mentally, and spiritually fit because it not only makes sense, but it is ingrained in me. It is a very big part of who I am.
Why I Love It:
I just love the way it feels, I love being fit, and it has truly become a part of me and who I am.
How I Stay Motivated:
See section on how I got started.
BB Accomplishments:
Mostly just personal accomplishments. I have never competed with anyone but myself.

man I think you are right, again I may have said this, but my head is so clear, I am making right choices left and right, eating only healthy, at work saying no to freebie junk food, quit alcohol 100%, today was 10 days sober, no desire to drink, been invited to a few parties this weekend, it will be easy to say no to junk food and booze. I may go to socialize, but these people are my friends and know Im serious about quitting and wont pressure me.
Thank you for the encouragement, I have nothing to lose, when your wife says its over, there are so many ways you can head, I have chosen to improve, I am off booze, my head and body are dry. My anxiety is under control. I feel like for the first time in 23 years I can see again. So be it, im moving on, I have a lot of weigts at my house I have to sell now. what a drag, Ive had them for over 20 years , now I have to firesale my stuff or throw it out.
Yeah, I know its possible, and if im on my own, its now more doable than ever.
I will have so much time on my hands, and I will not be able to stay idle , so ill work out. Ill be ripped in no time. Im over pure depression, now im seeingg with new eyes, yeah it was me, but I can apoligize till i die, and it wont matter, so its time to move on and get on with my life. Im doing that. Ill see where it takes me
Damn, man you look great. Awesome mass on your chest and size on your arms. You have really inspired me big guy. I want to be just like you. Take care and good luck in achieving all your goals and reaching your personal physique objectives, clearly you are well on your way!
Hey man, I quit drinking 100%, now it seems I cant go out and im getting left behind from all my friends, and even my wife. I really need a suport network or ideas where to hang out. Im getting depressed about my seperation from my wife, so Id like to find activities in the colorado area that dont focus on alcohol at all, but still are fun and could have bunches of people that I can meet. ANy ideas? I know this sounds loser, but I realy feel isolated and alone.
Doing well, Nick. Your kids will appreciate your being around for them. What exactely is a "life" coach? Have heard the term, but never took time to find out what it means.
Thanks for stopping buy, things are going well, training is good, my goal to cut more is stalled, but I know i have to take my diet more serious and kick the cardio up a knotch, hows every thing for you? keeponpumpin!-red
