How I Started:
As I started getting older, around 16, I needed something to do during the summer. Fortunately for me, there was a gym 3 miles away. But first I needed money to pay for a membership so I got myself a job. My first job was cleaning golf carts at a country club for minimum wage, which was $5.14 then. Eventually, I saved up enough money to get a membership. When my father took me to sign up, he surprised me and paid for another year. Which was great because if you purchased 2 years up front, you received another year free. So, within 5 minutes of being in the gym, I now had a 3 year membership! I was like a kid in a candy store! ;) I was fortunate enough to grow up with a father who often jog and exercised at home with weights. So I had a pretty good idea what I was doing. I started on the machines but everyday I would watch and learn from the guys in the free weight area. I soon started trying some of their workouts on my own. So, the summer before my senior year of high school, I decided to take weight lifting seriously. Around this time, I discovered bodybuilding.com. Needless to say, that summer I started off weighing 152 lbs., by the end of it, I weighed 171 lbs. Today, many years later, I still haven't kicked the habit ;)

Goal (Long):
For the last 10 years I have worked out off and on. Sometimes for months straight at a time and sometimes not too serious. Well, as of March 15, 2009, I decided to change some horrible habits that I picked up along the years: cigarettes and alcohol. The best decision I have ever made! So the next day, a Monday, I weighed myself for the first time in years. The last time I had weighed myself, I weighed 176 pounds. Well, I weighed 196 pounds! I was in shock and right there it hit me that I had not made any progress over the years because I was drinking EVERY weekend. I felt around 23% body fat, maybe higher. At first I couldn't even do 10 minutes on the bike without being winded. I felt as if I was an old man withering away. Within 3 weeks I was up to 45 minutes of cardio rotating from the bike, to the eliptical. Currently, I'm doing 20 minutes of HIIT every day before lifting weights.
