I'm NOT a competitive body builder at all. I was a competitive surfer for 7+ years. In my teens and early 20s I was fairly lean and weighed about 145-150 lbs. At 23 I had a full career plan that I put into place. At 27 I had for the most part quit surfing. At 28 I started making decent money but was really out of shape from being behind a desk 8-10 hours a day and eating horribly. I got into a gym, educated myself about nutrition, and the rest is history. I wish I would have known a bit more about living a healthier lifestyle when I was in the water as a teen.
Why I Love It:
The gym is a fair replacement for what I use to have in the water. Besides, there's nothing wrong with being fit!
How I Stay Motivated:
Actually, I tried out being a trainer for about 6 months. A few people where GREAT to train! But for the most part, most people don't want to do it, they don't want to be there, and they think that a trainer is going to wave a magic wand over them to make it all happen. NOT! And it was unmotivating, and draining. So I gave it up with the exception of friends that are serious and need a little help. Now I can be in the gym with my head phones on and not be bothered again. It's all good!
BB Accomplishments:
Well, when I was about 23 and competing in surfing contests, I weighed about 145 lbs. At 28 when I quit surfing I weighed 173-175 and I was chubby! (I have a picture) I got into the gym and dropped down to 150 and got lean again, but then decided I want a little more muscle. I'm 173 now (I don't do body fat testing but guess I'm 7-8%) again and FIT! It doesn't suck!....Note: Update; As of the start of 2008 I was weighing around 176-178. I'd guess I was around 10% body fat tops. I've gained new muscle, and still have my abs, but there looking a little soft. I started to lean out some as of Feb 25th, 2008. Wish me luck!
I have a fairly set work out that works well, but I still vary and change it around as much as possible. Right now, (since I have the wild hair to lean out) I'm doing 4-6 days a week. I do 25-35 minute of cardio at medium intensity, the about 45 minutes of weight training. I usually do 3...
Hi, sorry for not responding sooner - have not been online for some time. I ended up in the emergency room (intestinal adhesion issue - 15 years and no problems until I went on a better diet....go figure!) Sept 6 till now I've had to "watch it". Guess I'll be starting from scratch again, but at least I did not end up needing surgery this time. BTW - I never get tired of looking at this picture. :-) Thanks for asking about me!
