When I Started:
Aug, 2004
How I Started:
I began working out with my football team. We lifted in the off-season in preperation for the next season. At first, the weight room sessions were really intimating. But as time went on, and I progressed, weight room became something that I looked forward to.
Why I Love It:
There are many things about ourselves, and our lives in general, that we have no control over. I love that you can constantly improve your physique and character through weightlifting. It's the one thing about myself that I can make better everyday.
How I Stay Motivated:
My gains keep me motivated. Every time that I add weight to an excercise or I notice a change in my physique, I want to do it again. I never don't want to lift. I actually look forward to it. When you're at the gym, nothing else matters.
BB Accomplishments:
I'm proud of the transformation of my physique since I've been lifting. I was always chubby and out of shape when I was younger. I was also very weak. This caused me to have a pretty low self-esteem. I feel that I've made a huge improvement in my body, and that's an accomplishment. I remember when I began lifting and I could barely bench press 65 pounds. I couldn't wait until I could bench a 45 pound plate on each side. I tested my one rep max on the bench press last month and I pressed 235 pounds with good form. I'm very proud of that.

I usually aim for 8 reps, but I take the every excercise to failure regardless of how many reps I end up getting. I do one set per excercise, after you take a muscle to failure, you don't benefit from doing any more reps. You're just getting sore! If you don't believe me, check with the american college of sports medicine. Full body workouts, 3 days a week, with a day of rest in between each excercise day. How long do you rest between sets on average? Why?
2 minutes is ideal to restore ATP (energy) stores. Supersets get you tired, but you're not benefiting from them. Rest in between excercises. You'll benefit more from them.

What celebrity body would you most like to have? Why?
Sylvester Stallone was Big and lean in the Rocky movies. His body was SICK!
I'm new to all this, and I wanted to post a question about a supplement on the forum, so I did so under the supplement science section. I got some helpful information, and my confusions were all cleared up. I was happy, and I thanked everyone for their support. I logged on today and I saw that...
I took a two month course to become a personal trainer. We had many classes. Two of them were Physiology and program design. We learned why this method of resistance training is the most efficient. This method is also supported by the American College of Sports Medicine. I've applied what I...
Hi Jimmy. Please drop in some time into my workout journal http://forum.bodybuilding.com/ showthread.php?t=108580941 I'd really appreciate your feedback/criticism. See how fat ol' codger whips himself back into shape. Take care.
Cha! You're lucky that...this computers...here...er something.
Anyway, how's it goin'? HA!
I'm tired. I'm going to go and do something else er something.
(flexing) Wha? Oh, yeah, mah guns...Yeah, they're holdin' up really well...I can feel them growing every time I type a character. Wanna arm wrestle? Cause I'll take ya on, oh yeah! FEEL THE POWER, BAY-BAY!
OH yeah! I've already come up with my husband's and mine. Just think pudding and jewels...pudding and jewels...pudding and jewels...I think I'm going to have to do my husband's when he's sleeping though. After I told him what I'm going to dress his abs up as, he started laughing hysterically, stopped and just said, "No." Little does he know how sly I can be. Plus I know where he sleeps. MMUUUAHAHHAHAH!
Actually, my cat is getting FATTER (hence her name "Fats") which I hope isn't a trend to using this treadmill! If it is, I'm going to avoid it like the plague. And since I SMOKED my triceps, they are a little sore, but nothin' a buff, gun-totin', weight-liftin'-aholic can't handle. Unfortunetly, I'm not that person, so I popped some pills. ;o) Hey, the challenge is on to change that pic you got into a work of art! Read my blog, and get the scoop!
Oh heck no! For one, I DON'T like sweating. Probably one of the many reasons I'm in the shape that I'm in right now. Second, I can't stand to be in either the sauna or the steam room for more than 15 minutes at a time. Sweat adversion, like I mentioned before. But thanks fer lookin' out. :o)
Honey, there are 5 sometimes 6 people in this 1 BATHROOM home. During a bath, 1.there's a freezing draft that gives me goosebumps the size of ladybugs, 2.at LEAST 2 people will barge in announcing loudly that they "have to go poop", 3.I WILL have a nekt 2 year old trying to push me out of HIS shower, and 4.I have about 5.7 minutes of hot water to "enjoy". I do the sauna and the steam room because I CAN. I have 2 hours of free child care, and I am DAMN well going to take advantage of it. :o)
Oh sure! Make me feel guilty cause I didn't go in yesterday and you did even though you were on yer death bed...sheesh! Well, I've got one up on ya. I'm going in tonight and I'm going to make up for yesterday AND do cardio, AND probably go in the steam room AND the sauna. Yeah, I'm SMOKIN'! And hyper, in case you can't tell. I know. I hide it well. :o)
Jimmy, you sound like you have a great attitude, and I have no doubt that if you go through life looking to assist people in whatever area you feel your strength lays, you will touch a great many lives. For me personally, I believe my strength lies in helping people to both embrace fitness and also to believe in and embrace the Lord. I would be honored if you would keep in touch.
Cool - and a good way to help pay for the education at the same time. Good luck with the remainder of your school year and your training! I'll be watching for big gains for you this summer.
That's good - it would be a shame to let that knowledge go to waste. Plus it gives you some practice before you get hired by the gym. Are you heading off to college in the fall?
I'll keep reading yours, too! And don't worry about giving me too much information - I like to have as many facts as possible whenever I start something new and appreciate all the suggestions and advice I can get. Plus, as you mentioned, it's nice to "talk" about this stuff with others who get it.
Hey thanks - and I'm glad at least one person is reading my blogs, though I kind of write them now as much for myself as anything. Concerning interval training, I'm actually giving it a try to get my overall stamina up at this point and not so much for weight loss (though I need both). Plus, just to change things up a bit so I don't get entirely bored with cardio. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again for the info and comments!
