When I Started:
2000
How I Started:
I got into fitness by deciding to train for a 5K race. I'm not a runner, and this was a huge reach for me. I'm SUCH a sucker for the race t-shirt - and my feeling is that you can't wear the tee if you haven't run the race!
I'm very competitive and am lucky to have been blessed with good genetics - so I tend to see gains/changes fairly fast... this has always been motivational to me. So I do "just one more" and try to be the best I can be. I got into the CKD and will switch off with the TKD - low carb/timed carb works well for me because I tend to be a carb-a-holic... it's hard to stop once I start. Therefore I abstain and stay fairly low carb every day.. with the exception of post-workout & the carb-up phase.
Why I Love It:
I believe there are NO excuses¦ age, income, family, etc. If you truly WANT to make it happen, you WILL.
You CAN have it if you want it badly enough.
How I Stay Motivated:
I have to walk around in shorts all day long, rain or shine. THAT motivates me for sure! (lol) Being a personal trainer keeps me on my toes because I want to be a good role model for my clients, and a "walking advertisement" for my personal training business. (I'm an independent, not a gym employee.) But that doesn't mean that I don't struggle like everyone else.It gets tough - you just have to keep your weye on the prize... keep your head down and focus on your goals instead of listening to all the outside white noise from those negative non-believers.
I stay motivated by tracking my macro nutrients and following a low carb (CKD/TKD) diet and training program.
For me, a productive day begins with resistance training and HIIT at 5 a.m.... I leave the house by 7 a.m. and go to work. I am on my feet all day at the gym (I'm a Personal Trainer and Corporate Membership/Wellness rep, which isn't a bad thing! The day often rounds out with more cardio after work and into bed by 9:30 to do it all over again!
BB Accomplishments:
After consistent training, the day I hit 8 plates on the Hack Squat.
I don't train like a "girl"... I believe that human beings generally respond to the same type of stimulus, and limiting yourself because of gender is just one way to use a mental crutch, hindering progress. Learning the basics of resistance training, including working extensively with free weights has made the biggest difference in my training.
