When I Started:
Dec, 2008
How I Started:
I started working out as a freshman in highschool. I played football and wanted to gain weight, strength, and power. I always had trouble gaining as my body seemed to want to be skinny as opposed to muscular. By eating everything under the sun I was able to go from 130 lbs to 210 lbs. by my senior year.
I was an athlete in college, and again had to struggle to gain mass. By senior year I had gone from 210 lbs. to 240 lbs. Within a few months of my final season I had lost 30 lbs., and was again back to 210 lbs. A couple years later I trained for a marathon and was down to 190 lbs.
I started graduate school in 1994 and over the last 15 years have gained weight steadily (none of it muscle). I topped out at 270 lbs.
My son is getting bigger and wants to run around and play with me and I just couldn't keep up both because of my weight and some back problems.
After a lot of thinking and talking with friends I decided that I was going to make myself a priority and take better care of myself. This year I started working with a physical therapist for my back as well as two personal trainers. One that is helping me with my workouts and one that is helping me with my diet.
Why I Love It:
It just feels good to lift a bunch of weight or hammer out cardio for an hour. Right now I am doing neither of those things, but I remember what if feels like. For now if just feels good to go to the gym and know that I am taking care of my body.
How I Stay Motivated:
Everytime I bend to pick something up and I feel a sharp pain in my back, I think that there is no way I want to live the rest of my life like this.
I read profiles and blogs on bodyspace every day and it really helps to see so many other people making positive changes in their lives. IT IS POSSIBLE!
BB Accomplishments:
I made it to day 36 and am still on track =)

Tremendous progress while working a demanding job. It is not 10% or even 50% more difficult to stay on track when you have a high stress job, it is 10X harder. She's doing awesome!!
Almost because of pure convenience I had some chicken and raw broccoli from Trader Joe's the other day. I'm not sure whether its the fact that chawing of the raw broccoli requires mental focus and thus makes me more present and thus more satiated or the fact that my GI tract just can't push ...
