I didn't like the way I looked and felt and decided to do something about it. Before pregnancy I used to go to gym, wore size 8/32 and was comfortable with 54kg. I used to go to gym once or twice per week (if I felt like it and if I was not too busy at work). I did a bit of cardio and that's how far my interest in exercising went. As I planning my wedding, I found out that I was pregnant, so I was 13 weeks pregnant when I got married. I had to adjust to living with someone and been pregnant, I gained 17kg through my pregnancy. When the baby was 6-months, hubby started hinting that maybe I should go back to the gym and off course I got very angry with him. "After all I gave him a beautiful, healthy baby, through C-section and how could he expect my body to be the way it was when we met." He was never cruel or anything and supported my decision and never pushed. To be honest, I didn't like what I saw in the mirror, was depressed about my weight, My dress size was 36/12 at the time, bordering on 38, my clothes were getting tight. The saying is true "When the student is ready, the teacher appears. Because I love reading, hubby bought me the "Body For Life" book, which I read within two days and the lights went on. And I am an all or nothing person, so I took my before pics 30 September 2006, went grocery shopping and hired a personal trainer and I have never looked back...
I had way too many challenges, criticism about why I wanted to loose weight, Not a lot of people in my community are concerned with eating healthy. We eat whatever we want, when we want because thats how everyone eats. And a lot of black women in particular are very proud of being big. In SA a lot of us have small waists with big butt and it is considered sexy, I didn't like what I saw on the pic or the mirror so I decided to change despite all the nasty comments I received. So I did the "Body for Life" programme for three months and the rest is history...
Why I Love It:
It makes me feel good and I love seeing my body transform.
How I Stay Motivated:
I set weekly goals, the support of my husband and been a role model for my three-year old daughter - she eats everything I eat - brocolli, asparagus, salmon, chicken etc - and she doesn't eat sweets. She has her own plastic barbell and dumbells :)

Nice boxing gloves. How have you been? I am ok. Training is fine. Changing my routine. I want to get more leaner and stronger by being able to control my body weight. I do a lot of body weight exercises now.
