Once I moved into my own place from my parents' I ate typical student junk, like refined carbs, chips and pizza. I wasn't overweight by all means, but I didn't really feel as alive as I did when I was younger and enjoying soccer, swimming and cycling. I bought a set of dumbbells and a bench to get in shape before I joined a gym as I was pretty self-conscious at first as it's a pretty popular gym, I didn't want to look too out of shape.
Why I Love It:
I love the pump and the endorphin rush, that post-workout 'high' you get from hitting the weights hard. When I train hard, I feel good about it all day. It's made me more confident in myself. I also love running intervals for cardio.
How I Stay Motivated:
It's funny this, but the way I stay motivated is not to become too obsessed with working out. When you think too much about something it can break you. If I'm training for strength or to run a 5k/10k faster and I have to train more than usual, I'm careful about giving my body the rest it needs, mentally and physically.
