I started lifting in high school like everyone else. But I stopped for many years after graduate school. Marriage, career, children... it all took priority. It wasn't until my late 30's, when my life became more settled, that I started lifting again and I started competing as a strength athlete only a few years ago.
Why I Love It:
In my very stressful job, working out keeps me focused. Hitting the gym is better than going to a psychiatrist or taking Lexipro!
Oh! And if I can do it, anyone can do it! I have the worst schedule of anyone I know!
How I Stay Motivated:
I am addicted! I love feeling strong, I love the stares at restaurants, I love getting big. It is a rush to be able to do things that average people can't do, like lifting cars or running with 260 pounds in each hand!
BB Accomplishments:
Never competed as a BB! At this point, I know I will never be really cut or even look like a bodybuilder. But there is nothing but the love; I have plenty of props for my BB brothers.
I still want to be the LW Masters Nationals Champion, but I have to rehab my shoulder first.
Goal (Long):
I went to the NAS Strongman National Championships in Kansas, and came in second. I injured my shoulder and came back and I had it repaired on October 23, 2007. I am now going to rehab my shoulder and see what heights I can reach in 2008. I think this is my year!
Do you tell your friends and/or family about your fitness goals?
Yes
Why or why not?
I think that it is important to have my friends and family know that I have a contest planned and give me support and encouragement. It is especially important that my wife know about contests so that she can forgive my many mood swings.I think that it is important to have my friends and family know that I have a contest planned and give me support and encouragement. Description: This was a deadlift training day, but we did it in the garage because it was raining so hard in Florida that day. Not a contest winning performance but fun.
I have gotten a lot of nice comments about my strongman prayer I wrote and that is really nice.
My rehab for my shoulder is going really well, but I am so impatient. I had set aside the month of January to train, but to keep the weight purposely dialed back to allow the joint plenty of...
What's up Mike? Enjoyed the convo's between you, Ben and Dom in Benny5's thread. Really dug the Viking press, never heard of it and I might be able to try that one at home!
Have you ever done the Highland Games type events? I've never done it at a real games, but I hosted my own a few years back. We tossed a caber, threw a stone, and pitched a hay bale over a high pole. Everyone had great fun!
