My goal is to lose 20 lbs. of fat while maintaining or increasing my muscle mass.
Goal (Long):
I've gone from skinny to buff. Now I intend to go from fat to buff. I was a swimmer in high school and my idea of lifting was high reps of low weights, day in and day out. When I got to college I managed to put on 20 lbs. of muscle by supplementing with whey and creatine and following the workout guides in Men's Health magazine.
The following year two significant lifestyle changes took place that were great for me mentally but terrible physically. First, I started law school. Then, I got married. While I didn't put on as much weight as most of my classmates (largely because I maintained a steady lifting routine), the combination of a sedentary lifestyle and high levels of continuous stress resulted in me gaining nearly 30 lbs. of fat. Four years later I have my bar license and a steady income and am ready to get in the best shape of my life.
A person's metabolism is a fickle thing. Not in the sense that it varies wildly over time (although it does), but in that it will make life a living hell for any male interested in getting in shape, regardless of whether you intend to do so by losing weight, adding muscle, or both. For...
