Started as a gym rat at 155 lbs after getting sand kicked in my face at the beach. I began training with a serious bodybuilder for several years learning how to strictly work ALL body parts. He owned the gym and saw potential in me. This was a tremendous blessings and foundation for my eventual power lifting competitions. I have competed in the 198; 220; 242 and 275 lb classes in Georgia, Florida, Ohio and Pennslyvannia.
Why I Love It:
I love the solitude and physical feeling of training hard. I also love the discipline involved and the fact that it is YOU and the weights ... no one else to blame for any failures. It is also something my GORGEOUS WIFE and I enjoy together. She is into Figure Competitions.
How I Stay Motivated:
It isn't hard. I have trained at least three days a week since 1979. My initial physical changes and the comments that followed were "fuel for the fire" (early on) so to speak. I now train for the pure love of it and so I don't get killed or injured at work. Training just feels natural to me and my body misses it when I take occasional breaks.
BB Accomplishments:
Just Powerlifting Contest for me. Numerous contest in Georgia, Florida, Ohio and Pennslyvania since 1979. I have never been into the sport of bodybuilding. Looking younger and feeling younger is a major accomplishment of the lifestyle. I also need to be strong to stay injury free at my employment.

Goal (Long):
To get back into competition powerlifting shape at 47 years old. I have competed since 1980 and in four different states (Georgia, Florida, Ohio and Pennslyvania) I'd like to attain a 405 lb. My main goal is to stay strong, fight aging and have fun doing it while competing a couple times per year.
Weight Goal:
I want to GAIN 20 lb
Bodyfat Goal:
15%
Upcoming Contest:
Various Powerlifting Contest as they appear.

What tips would you give to others to help them stay motivated over the long-term?
Formulate a goal and then formulate a plan and stick to your plan. Use magazines and photos (posters) etc. if you need to. Write notes to yourself on a calendar and use a training log. Make a plan whether it is to get fit or to compete. Use the MIRROR ... not the scales if you want to get fit or compete. Exercise form is the most important aspect to learn.Formulate a goal and then formulate a plan and stick to your plan. Use magazines and photos (posters) etc. if you need to. How many reps per set do you usually do? Why?
Heavy triples or fives on mass building exercises ... tens on everything else. The heavy exercises are done with speed and based on percentages of my max. The tens are for variety and to pump blood.

How long do you rest between sets on average? Why?
As long as it takes to feel fresh for the next set unless I am doing fast triples (speed training).
Over the past twenty nine years of competing in power-lifting I have trained in Georgia, Florida, Ohio and Pennslyvannia. I two biggest mistakes I see over and over again is (1) not using correct form and (2) using too much weight for a particular exercise. Doing quarter squats is not going...
