Background
I dated a bodybuilder after High School and he got me interested in bodybuilding. I've been involved with weight training off & on over the years, but after taking a desk job & gaining a lot of weight a few years ago, I knew I had to do something. Physically, I was exhausted just trying to tie my shoes. I was tired all the time, my sleep pattern was horrible, and I was developing numerous health issues. I avoided any situations that required me to wear shorts and swimsuits were definitely out of the question! I stopped going to the gym because I tired so easily, just after 3 or 4 reps. Mentally/emotionally, I was embarrassed by my appearance. My self-esteem was in the toilet. I depressed much of the time and had a negative attitude towards everyone & everything. I began wearing men's 2x t-shirts, just to hide the fat! My social life was virtually non-existant, because I was too embarrassed to go out. I really had a sucky attitude towards life. After having my photo taken for my ID badge at work, I was stunned at the face I saw staring back at me! After major surgery in 2010, I began exercising again and joined a gym. I had several sessions with a personal trainer, to get me started. I didn't gain all the weight overnight and knew the changes weren't going to happen overnight. It's about dedication & staying motivated. Also, with my renewed interest in health & fitness, I became certified as a fitness trainer, specializing in overweight/obese clients. I want to help motivate them and let them see there is light at the end of the tunnel. But, I know I can't just talk the talk, I have to walk the walk; to lead by example. This is just the beginning! :-)
I really enjoy working out, because it energizes me. I've tried several different programs and have found that Jamie Eason's LiveFit trainer is the best fit for me. I feel great after a good workout!

Lifetime Lifestyle Change!
Posted in Other : Mar 17, 2012 9:00pmAfter telling my roommate/former partner - don't ask, long story! -for the umpteenth time that I get up every morning at 4am to go to the gym, the reality finally struck me: no matter how many times I try explaining it, he's never going to understand/accept that this is my new, permanent lifestyle!
It also drove home the reason why we are now just roommates & no longer a "couple" and the roommate thing is also soon to be a thing of the past. He also seems determined to sabotage my efforts. I don't bring any "junk food" or proces
...Gotta get moving!
Posted in Training : Feb 20, 2012 10:07amI did NOT sleep well last night! I have no clue what it was, but I woke up every hour on the hour, from the time I went to bed until my alarm went off.
I admit, I did toy with the idea of saying "screw it!" and sleeping in, skipping a trip to the gym. I laid there a moment, then got angry with myself for even letting the idea creep into my head! Was I ill? No! Was I injured or in pain? No! So, then, what's the problem? If Ernestine Shepherd, at 75, can get up every single day at 3am and hit the gym, I
...Reality check!
Posted in Training : Feb 15, 2012 11:37amToday was a major reality check for me! Just when you think you're on top, something comes along and takes you down a notch!
All of the workouts so far have been great and even thought I've struggled a bit with a few of the exercises, I've made it through. Today, I completed Day 19 of the LiveFit Trainer & experienced my first rude awakening! The dumbell presses, lateral raises & crunches all went well, as did the cable flyes, front dumbell raises, Arnold presses & bent-over rear delt raises. And then came the Roman Chair Leg Raises...
