When I Started:
Jan, 2007
How I Started:
After trying to have a heart attack in November, 2006 and having a dear friend tell me I looked "waif like" I decided it was time for this mom (my kids were 2 and 6 at the time) to take care of herself for once. I enlisted the help of one of my clients (a personal trainer and female bodybuilder) and told her that I needed to "tone up". We began my journey in January, 2007. I started at a "skinny fat" 105 pounds, 22% BF. Neither my trainer nor I knew what would be in store. She slapped me on a clean diet and we lifted weights 4 times a week. In the beginning I admit to paying my 6 year old to help me push the cart at the grocery store after the gym and even more money to help me bring the bags in from the car. "Sore" does not even begin to describe it! About 4 weeks into training I asked her if she thought I could compete in Battle of Biloxi in July. My trainer Kathy is the most positive person I have ever met and she said she believed anything was possible. (I think right after she fell out of her chair!) Fast forward 6 months of blood, sweat, tears and lots of boiled chicken later I entered Battle of Biloxi at 112 pounds, 6% BF. I took first place in the short class, 1st place in MS Gulf Coast and 4th in masters. (I have posted before and after photos.) If you are older, a mom, or someone just wanting to "get fit" I have learned thru my trainer that "All things are possible for those who BELIEVE". This sport will absolutely give you back everything you put into it. The only one who can determine your results is YOU!
Why I Love It:
I used to have headaches and back pain constantly. Now I feel great and look better than ever.
