I've always had been chunky as a kid. I first started fitness back in 8th grade, mainly cardio. Then I stopped for 3 years. Then again in Dec 02, again mainly cardio. I ended up really hurting my knee due to excessive running around the end of 03, so I stopped again for 3 years. I picked up working out, this time adding weight training and the gym, around Nov 06. I had no idea what I was doing, but I lost weight and got a bit toned. (I would do a dumbell row as an arm workout, and a lat pulldown as a chest workout. I was CLUELESS!) I stopped around the end of spring of 07 and drank excessively, gaining a lot of fat and weighting 170 lbs around aug 07. After that around oct-nov, I did basic ab workouts, pushups, and running. I even bought the perfect pushups and used that to lose about 10 pounds by jan 08. At the end of feb early march, I was convinced to hit the gym once again, and I've been pretty consistent since then. But this time, Im armed with Muscle&Fitness, MensHealth, and Bodybuilding.com, along with a mentality of sticking with it for GOOD! This is no longer some kind of chore, or pain. The way I workout, and especially the way I eat: Its a lifestyle. Make the change.
Why I Love It:
I love receiving compliments, and also watching the details in my body when I flex (haha!). Plus, again, genetics are not with me, so I love defying those genetics in my bloodline. AND, its a great escape when one needs to get away.
How I Stay Motivated:
Update 12 June 09: The fact that I HAVE made this a lifestyle is what has kept me moving forward. Its much easier, now that I know what do eat, how to work out, and all the details of a fit life. I still have MANY small details to perfect, but little by little. I've been doing this for over a year now. Im gettin more and more knowledgeable every day! Thanks to all the BB.com bodyspacers that have helped me through my journey. Its not over yet...
BB Accomplishments:
260lbs on the squat for 10 reps| May 14
600lbs Leg Press/8 reps| May 10
250lbs Deadlift/2 reps | Nov 23
Just me WAYYYYYY back when. just finished BMT and tech school and I had just gotten to my first assignment. Germany. I never drank prior to that. The rest shows in the following progress pics. The ups and downs...
My overall goal is, of course, to carve out my six pack. Second is to have some well rounded and detailed delts. Third is to have at least 15 in arms, well developed and detailed. Forth is to have some meaty thighs, not too worried if they're detailed or not since I wear pants all the time, but mainly for strength n size. Fifth is to have a muscular and athletic body.
~~Genetics are absolutely not my friends. Its hard for me to gain muscle, and after a fatty meal, I wear it the very next day. The only thing that I have going for me is that I have a good amount of stamina and I can keep going for a long workout session, which has lead me to overtrain on numorous accounts. It works wonders when I do cardio, though!
~~I think I would like to weigh about 160lbs (I am currently at 144lbs, and thats a drop from 168 lbs being chunky about a year ago) and lose enough bodyfat to carve out my six pack and detail my arms and shoulders.
As far as the big time exercises, My goals are for reps:
--Bench Press: 250lbs currently at 150lbs
--Squat: 300lbs currently at 190lbs
--Deadlift: 300lbs currently at 180lbs
--Leg Press: 450lbs currently at 320lbs
--Plate Stack Row: 250lbs currently at 150lbs
~~This again, is a lifestyle I am trying to stick with, so there is no timeframe for these goals.
~~My biggest problem is in nutrition, which I can safley say has improved with eating more nutritious foods and more protien, and eliminating fast food and fatty meals (except on every other week cheat days) and not drinking as much as I used to. Again, my ultimate goal is the six pack and I've had an extremely difficult time shedding the fat around my waist, since thats where every fat cell in my body is. Slowly but surly, I will achieve these goals, and 'Live Healthier'
~~Update 11 Dec 08: Okay, a new thought has recently popped in my head. Im still small, but the small t-shirts that I wear are starting to look a bit better on me. But I will be happy when I am streaching medium sized shirts!

Nice! I'm impressed :D It took me years before I got the nerve to make a turkey. I was so afraid of drying it out or under cooking it. Everyone made it sound so complicated. I'm glad you had an awesome meal.
yeah, see only twisted minded musicians can appreciate 1/2 of what I say caus I used to be a rock musician so my brain is a bit creative and "off". I may have to market plastic roaches for purchase to help people to stay on their diet!......lol
Man, seems like you've got a lot going on. Change is good. Not always comfortable. But it will always work out for the best. I love your passion. You keep pushing at it. You'll get your breakthrough!
My oldest daughter was trying to convince us to get a Saint Bernard or Alaskan Husky for my middle daughter! I'm, personally, partial to Shepherds but my oldest suffers from allergies, so we tried to find a dog that wouldn't shed too much. We already have a black lab and a Westie. Arrrrgggghhh! lol
Nah man, stick with the female instructor. They know how to move properly. Bet you never thought your hips could move that way huh? Have fun with the Zumba!!! Baila!!!
No, was fun in front of a camera...hehe. Been out of commission a little. Was in the hospital, so now trying to figure our what the hell is wrong with me and more testing next month. grrrrr. many smiles -m
Thanks for the blog comment Mike. I'm very pleased with how my tat turned out. That was my fourth one... I'm planning on redoing the one on my shoulder and I promised my oldest daughter that we could get tattoos together when she was old enough. So I have two more for sure that I am getting :-)
Hello Mike,
