I think there is some truth to the "total number of reps" idea. It aligns with the concept of "time under tension" Sets and reps are really just a easy way to measure the total volume. As you may know, I'm a big believer in using 3 part training Strength:heavy weight; Volume: Lots of sets x reps; Muscle Conditioning: reps for fatigue
