Overall Goal: Lose 10-20 lbs of fat, gain 10-20 lbs of muscle and lift more. Be proud with my shirt off and in the bedroom. Fit in my clothes, many of which I'm just barely too large for (fat-wise). Avoid cancer/heart disease/joint problems early in life.
Fit Status:
Ugh, ate crap food today=stomach issues=no work out. Back to program tomorrow!

When I Started:
Jun, 2009
How I Started:
I was a personal fitness trainer for 6 years but I stopped doing that 3 years ago. Since then, I got out of shape and even smoked for two years. I quit smoking April of '09 and I've started going back to the gym again June of '09.
I'm tired of the "fat torso/skinny legs" thing that's started happening with me. I don't like my genetic propensity to hold fat on my chest (thanks dad). I'm 33 and I now fully accept that I can't just "do whatever" and be in shape anymore.
Why I Love It:
I also find exercise to be a wonderful way to deal with stress. I used cigarettes for that but I prefer the long and short-term side effects of exercise over those that come with smoking.
How I Stay Motivated:
I'm a much happier and emotionally healthier person when I work out on a regular basis. My weight work is very high-intensity and I LOVE pushing up one more rep than last time. I also like punishing myself a little bit and testing my limits. My upper body weights are very low (I lose upper body strength real fast) and I'm determined to push them higher.

My best work outs make me question my sanity and fear for my mortality.

Goal (Long):
As far as body composition, I'm closer than I think I am to my goals. I'm not looking to maintain 5% bodyfat or anything extreme like that but I know I can be happy with my body if I work at it.
My secondary goals are to post pics on this site. I'm not at all ready to do that yet but I'm setting a deadline for myself. I want to be able to post pics that I'm proud of, mainly to offset what I would put up now, which I'm not proud of. I'll be setting the actual deadline soon.
We all have obstacles standing in the way of our goals. This guy proves that it's not the size or type of obstacles that count but rather how you choose to overcome them. He also proves that one's attitude can help guide one's destiny.
Do you track your workouts (exercises, weight, reps, etc.)?
Yes
If so, how do you do it? Workout log, software program, etc.? Why do you do it this way?
I use a little notebook during my work outs, then I enter the data into my bodyspace.com work out tracker.

Do you tell your friends and/or family about your fitness goals?
No
Why or why not?
I've tried this before and I find that it doesn't work for me. I put too much stock in their perception and began to lie to them. By keeping my goals to myself, I'm forced to be honest with the one person who really matters in all of this: Me.I've tried this before and I find that it doesn't work for me. What tips would you give to others to help them stay motivated over the long-term?
If you don't consistently stick to a program, it will fail. Everyone goes through tough times sticking to theirs but the ones who achieve their goals do their best to stay on track.
I'm a big believer in momentum when it comes to work outs and results. Therefore, I push myself to get to the gym when I know I should. Such as the case last night. I dozed off when I got home from work and that pushed my work out back much farther than I would have liked. However, I went anyway....
