How I Started: Ever since the police academy, I have stuck with the ass-kicking routines to stay in shape.

50% of the time, my backup is 30 minutes away so I have to be able to handle people by myself

Sometimes a taser (or talking people down) won't do the trick :)

Right now. I'm doing 4 full-body workouts a week with 20 minutes of cardio in the morning and 20 at night. Just realized I was only averaging about 1200 calories a day.

When I first started, I'd stay on the treadmill til I hit 3 miles. I didn't always run at first. I did what I had to to make it to my goal. I ran on the treadmill all through winter. Didn't hit the street until spring. I was new to running. Now I average 3-6 miles nearly every day. 3 is a good standard though. ;)
