Background

When I Started: Aug 2009
HOW I STARTED:

I've been weight training since I was 11, but I only started getting into serious training January 2010 when I decided to prepare for my first figure competition! My mom was the one who inspired me to weight train and she took me to watch my first bodybuilding competition. I was amazed by how confident they were on stage , and just how awesome their bodies looked!

WHY I LOVE IT:

I LOVE training because it's so amazing to watch your body transform. It also helps with depression which many people don't know about. And I'm sure all of you out there know what I mean when I say "ENDORPHINS ARE AMAZING" !

I'll usually do an i-pod makeover! I'll take all my playlist and put new funky music in them so I can get through boring morning cardio (Yawn!).
I also look up pics of the recent figure competitions and remind myself what I'm working towards.

Accomplished my Goal

I finally accomplished a goal of mine from 2011! It was to get into Oxygen Magazine for future of fitness! http://www.oxygenmag.com/Community/Future-of-Fitness/Articles/Miriam-Looney.aspx Now I have my eyes set on my new goals or "resolutions" for 2012. I have two separate lists for my New Year's Resolutions. One is purely fitness goals I want to reach and the other is all my personal goals to better my brain power and get out of my comfort zone. I'd recommend you to make two separate lists as well and make all your goals very specific! Best of luck in 2012 and remember to always kee...

Holiday Struggles

If you're like me then you dread "vacations" and traveling. It's not that I don't love being with my family and visiting new places, it's that I hate packing tons of food and burdening everyone by having to find and get to a gym. This year we decided to take a 14 hour drive to Texas for Christmas. I had all my food and supplements packed and a gym that I could train at when I got there. One thing I didn't pack was my self control. I arrive to town to find cakes, pies, ice cream and all my other weakness spread across the kitchen counter.  Lets just say I've eaten my fair share o...

New Take on Sodium

In some of the recent popular bodybuilding magazines there has been articles on sodium and how it can actually help improve your muscle strength and greater muscle growth. I've always closely monitored sodium intake because I was worried about getting too bloated/holding water , and let me tell you... huge mistake!  I switched it up and started adding a little salt on all my vegetables and I definitely noticed a difference in my muscle strength compared to my last show prep. I'm two weeks out from Teen Nationals and I actually haven't lost as much strength as I usually ...
