I have been interested in training and nutrition for years, but have only applied my knowledge sparingly up to this point.
Why I Love It:
I forgot how awesome it feels after you have really given 100% to exercising. I used to love biking, tennis, volleyball, and feeling (relatively)strong and athletic as a teenager.
How I Stay Motivated:
So far I haven't have the same struggles to stay focused and on track as I have had in the past. This time feels really different. I think I finally had my "lightbulb on" moment without anything major happening. I just woke up one day and said, "now's the time". But, seeing pictures of really fit, athletic women and those that have lost a lot of weight and gotten fit are inspiring. Visualizing being firm and toned and feeling healthy motivate as well. As does being a cardiac nurse and seeing what I will wind up like if I don't change NOW.

My 12-week goal is to lose approx 40lbs./20 inches and increase my cardiac fitness.
Goal (Long):
I have never been "thin" or really fit, but I do miss feeling athletic and strong like I did in high school. I miss being able to skate and ride bikes. I miss wearing skirts! In hindsight I wasn't even aware how nice my legs and calves were back then. I know now. I want to be able to do any physical activity I desire without wondering if I am capable. Ride roller coasters without questioning if I will fit or not. Not needing a seatbelt extender on a plane. Have my parents stop looking at me when I eat during holiday gatherings. Shop somewhere besides a "plus-size" store for clothes! Be smaller than my husband! Feel comfortable in my own skin. Be able to cross my legs. Have a body to match my face! Never hear the dreaded "you're so pretty, if only..." ever again.
Long term, I want to lose 155 lbs./100 inches. I have no clue how long this will take, but I am undertaking this in 12 week increments, hoping to lose approx. 10% of weight/8% inches per cycle. SO I am thinking around 7 12-week cycles (1 year, 8 months) is reasonable.
Do you monitor your heart rate while doing cardio?
Yes
Do you use a heart rate monitor? Which one?
The cardio equip at my gym has built-in heartrate monitoring but I would like to buy one so I can wear it while doing other aerobic activities.
What heart rate do you aim for while doing cardio? Why?
I would like to keep it between 65-80% MHR but right now starting out it is more like 80-85% on the elliptical - but my RPE doesnt feel like my heart is working THAT hard!

What is your favorite cardiovascular exercise? Why?
I love the elliptical machine or doing varying inclines on the treadmill for a good leg burn
Well, let me just say for those of you wondering "Hey where the hell did she go? I bet she quit and fell off the wagon! SHe's probably on a McDonald's bender!" the answer is Not quite...lol (PS-I am sure there aren't really that many people truly wondering, but hey, I have to stroke...
One day of rest per week. I am maxing out the cardio benefits since right now I am needing to focus more on fat loss and improved cardiovascular/aerobic capacity. I gain muscle very very easily, so that won't be an issue. Plus, since I haven't worked out in YEARS I need to ease my body into it....
i am not going to say your pretty...but truth is your a beauty!keep your focus and you will achieve.rome wasnt built in a day!!!

Well dammit to hell!! I'm reading this and crying. Go figure huh?? I am so proud of you. And I can tell that you "really mean it" and are "going to stick to it". I hope you do because I don't know that I can say that I am as gung-ho and determined at this point to do the same. I need to be and I WANT to be. But that damn depression is a goal killer. So, I'm kinda leaning on you and hoping you'll keep up so I will be provided with constant motivation. I love you!
