When I Started:
Jan, 1994
How I Started:
In the early 90's, mid teens. The revelation occurred while watching, Conan the Barbarian. I was given a bench and weights to use in my basement back then. I recently found M&F and Flex mags in my attic dated from the early 90's. That was interesting, I've been into it for a while. I discovered strongman competition in the mid 90's and aspired to be fit, super strong, and as knowledgable as possible in the two disciplines (bodybuilding and strength athetics).
I've been on and off in the gym since then with the last few years more off than on due to low back issues. I now am learning to live with the back issues, trying to reverse it, and am getting into powerlifting type training, for their back strengh.
Why I Love It:
I honestly really love the feel of a heavy weight. There is nothing that can describe the feeling of moving heavy weight. I like a great pump but more knowing that the next time I train, or when I train in a few weeks I'll have increased my strength. Whether that is to reach the end of the DB rack or hit a number on a certain machine or have that big pull on the deadlift. Being stronger than most people is what keeps me going and doing what I like to do, lift heavy stuff!
How I Stay Motivated:
Well, this has been a tough deal for me in recent years.. I read M&F all the time, surf fitness websites all the time, watch fitness or strongman on tv all the time, and try to participate in fitness conversations whenever possible. Lately this site has been great, being able to reach out for a little extra motivation from all of you guys. Seeing the progress, before and afters, seeing the crude home gyms that make it happen, that has gotten me more interested in training.. Thank you!
BB Accomplishments:
I don't plan to compete on stage in physique competitions. I just love the lifestyle and would one day hope to enter a strongman competition. Until then my accomplishments will have to remain local to my arms and legs and what I can do with them in and out of the gym.
I am not going to be able to compete on a stage with other perfect physiques so I don't set that as a goal, though it would be nice to come close. I am more impressed with putting that size and muscle to work, showing what it can do, such as strength athetics. After hours and hours of Strongman coverage on tv, I get so amped up and full of adrenaline I just have to train. Not only do I get pumped seeing those guys do amazing things with strength, but hearing their stories of coming back from a torn muscle or tendon or even a spinal injury/back pain made me realize that I can be that guy too.. The one that gets through the pain and setback of a low back injury to once again perform with strength and develope my body along the way....
My goal: Beat this back.. Be the guy to get away from the ailment that plagues most of America.. Get stronger mentally and physically.. then go flip over that car that is parked in my spot!!!

Bodyfat Goal:

How has bodybuilding and fitness helped and/or changed your family life?
Well it's a great stress reliever... but the discipline does leak into everyday life and you take those strategies to other aspects of your life..

How has bodybuilding and fitness helped you in your career?
It really doesn't.. at least not for me.. there are few careers where it would be a real benefit (mentally anyway).. most of the time it's a Bordon because the rest of society eats junk food and doesn't care or know the first thing about training or changing ones physique.. so we are met with this constant resistance.. in that respect it's difficult but being pain free and strong and active certainly helps everywhere.. Hello me, It's me again.. Another year in the books.. another holiday season survived.. and now on to dealing with the resolutioners in the gym.. that's the worst part of being strict through the holidays, only to be punished for the next 3-6 weeks with a crowded gym.. anyway....
