When I Started:
2002
How I Started:
I Played competitive tennis in South America throughout my childhood and adolescence. As a very agil, fast, and skilled competitor with the racket, I had very little muscle mass weighing at 130 Lbs at the age of 18. After playing tennis for over 10 years and having accomplished what I wanted in the sport I decided it was time to begin a new journey, a quest of excellence of the self, a mastery of my mind, body, and soul. This was when I encountered bodybuilding, the sport that changed my life forever. I moved from Colombia to Canada in 2001, but it wasn't until 2002 that I started training like a bodybuilder. The summer, fall, and winter of 2003 were quite negative for me in terms of training and motivation. Although College took alot of my time, I still found time to hit the weights. What I didn't know was that my biggest set back arrived on August 2003. My brother Camilo and I were on our respective bicyles going down the hill towards the gym for a blasting Delts and Traps workout. Suddenly this lady turns into the side street I was on and hit me with her car. I woke up from being unconscious for half a minute with terrible pain in my left shoulder and my entire back. While laying on the pavement, Paramedics and Firefighters at the site of the accident didn't know if I had a dislocated shoulder or a fractured clavicule. Once in the hospital, two doctors came to the room I was in and said that I had suffered a major impact in my lumbar region and that my left clavicule had broken in half. That was not the worse part. The worse was when they said that I could not train for at least 10-15 months due to the injury in my back and shoulder. Suffering from depression and losing absolutely all the mass I had gained, I found myself in a state of sadness, frustration, and pain. Seen my physique becoming assymetrical and unproportional due to being unable to move the left side of my body caused me to become other person. I was severly depressed and angry. The abrupt impact disfigured my physique. During my recovery was when I found out about Bodybuilding.com and I started reading their training and motivational articles which helped me tons. I proved Doctors WRONG, I was back in the gym after 4 months into my recovery and not 10-15 months as they had predicted. It was brutal to comeback, I had to do lots of pilates and core training sessions to get my strength and core stability back. It took me exactly over a whole year of training to achive proportion and symmetry again. This is how I started Bodybuilding. The rest is history! All I have to say is that, it does not matter how terrible things seem to be at one specific moment frozen in time, God is there to protect us and helps us to surpass our obstacles and persevere in order to achieve our dreams and goals. My dream was to step on stage one day! That day took place on November 2004. I placed 2nd in the light weight class. The rest is history. Follow your path towards health and fitness by eating adequately, training wisely, and seeking for improvement and greater performace everytime. Train Hard.
Why I Love It:
Simply the Best Sport in The World, I love Bodybuilding because it has given me a sense of life and motivation like anything else. It fuels my mind, body, and soul so that I can be a better person every day. Accordingly, this is what I transmit to my clients and when I see them succeeding at reaching their fitness goals, it reminds me of what got me started in this sport: The search for the mastery of the self! Love your family, love your friends, love life, train intensely, and love the feel of skin tearing pumps, this is life, this your body, your mind, and soul. Bodybuilding is not solely for those who step on stage. Is also for anyone looking at modifying the way they feel about themselves in order to increase lean muscle, stamina, energy, strength, endurance and decrease body fat. Be happy with what God has given you, even if you don't have everything you want then work harder at achieving your goals in life and Bodybuilding. At The End, you will be happy you did all it took...Bodybuilding is a process of becoming, a constant strive to better oneself.
How I Stay Motivated:
I wake up every morning thanking God for giving me the beautiful family I have, for my great girl, for my awesome friends, for my career, and for Bodybuilding. This is my motivation, a conjunction of all the above, and most importantly, my intrinsic desire as an athlete to become the best I can be! I know I still need alot of work to achieve the level of size and symmetry I want to obtain. But, it is through hard work and putting in your time that results take place.
