When I Started:
Nov, 2004
How I Started:
I've been through a lot & can't do a lot of things that most people can. In 95 I was shot 2 times & wound up loosing my hip. After many surgeries I finally got it replaced in 2002. With all that, I let myself go. I guess I could consider my self lucky though. For the amount of exercise I got, I could have been a huge blimp. I never strayed from the 160/170 range (accept with some of the hospital stays, I did drop bellow that). But what I did wind up with was tiny arms and a big belly. I think what woke me up was the "Man boobs". There is no way I would have taken off my shirt in the summer. LOL
My wife had to go overseas for 6 months so I figured I'd try to surprise her. My goal was to get to where I was at when I was 21 (which was when we met). I met that goal & have been hooked ever since!
Why I Love It:
I have to continue working out. I don't know why but after all my surgeries, when I don't work out I get sore as heck. I get all kinds of body aches. Don't let the weather change. It can get so bad, it's like bad bad flu body aches to where I just want to stay in bed. When I'm working out though, very rarely will I get any of the weather aches.
Not to mention just feeling better about myself. Let’s face it, when you look like a lazy slob, you feel like one.
How I Stay Motivated:
I think about my family history. My father & his father died at 52 from major Heart attacks. I don't want to live to be too old, but 52 is to young.
My brother is having heart trouble now, at 39! He hasn't taken our family history seriously and I'm sure he's regretting it about now.
Also reading Men's Fitness Mag. keeps me going. I like that one over the others because it has less adds. With the others it seems like you have to dig to find an actual article.
It's a good way to get new ideas & workouts so you don't get stuck in a rut.
BB Accomplishments:
Staying healthy is enough to keep me satisfied :o)

I think I've been over doing it. I've been working out for at least 2 hrs so I'm going to shorten it up and stack on the weights. I took this pic to compare to in a couple months to see if the shorter-to the point workouts will get me moving forward.
My belly has grown! I was going to try to lose it but I've decided to go ahead & do a bulk. I'll put the calories to work & put on some muscle. It's winter anyway, right? LOL
Well I finally decided on which certification to go for. I choose ISSA (International Sports Sciences Association).
I chose them over NASM because of their impressive list of CEU courses and they have a lot more specialty certifications.
I liked the format of NASM courses but I just...

Going good...I had a slow start because I broke a rib right before my test. (scored a 92% on the closed book test). I have a few clients and am getting two new ones this week. How is the studying going? Have you taken the test yet?
I am happy! WITS (World Instructor Training Schools) is doing my cert...probably never heard of them, but they are supposed to be partnering with Bally Total Fitness over the next few months and coincidentally, that's who I'm doing my internship through! It worked out well.
You poor thing! How frustrating for you. I hope you get some relief soon so you can back into it all. Weather here is cooling as it will soon be winter but the sun's out and it is still mild. I am loving being back in Australia. Clare
