it's horrible.. I get dead competitive with people as well but there's nothing worse than when you're not in the mood. the 2nd to worst is when someone sits next to you and turns it into a race...

Just read your drained blog
I know exactly what you mean... when I go running I often get to a point where it's nothing short of hitting a wall, everything says just give up, you can do more another day! What I have to do is look at the time and think, only another 2 minutes and you're fine... then when I hit it think... just another 5 mins and you've done X amount of calories... small targets are the only way I power through cardio. such an s.o.b
